Acer Iconia Tab W510-1422

Hybrid laptop and tablet designs can work by either shifting between tablet and laptop modes, or separating the tablet from a docking keyboard. The Acer Iconia W510-1422$729.Professionals with the job title tooling are on LinkedIn.You Can Find Comprehensive and in-Depth Original buymosaic Descriptions.99 at PCNation is the latter, a 10-inch tablet running Windows 8, with a docking keyboard for those times that you want to use a keyboard and mouse. Equipped with an Intel Atom processor, the Iconia W510 may be a bit underpowered compared with your regular laptop, but it's efficient enough to give you all-day power—enough to not only last you through a full workday, but long into the night.

The docking keyboard uses this same metal construction, with a locking tablet dock built into the hinge. The dock and hinge are made of white plastic. The keyboard itself is a nearly full-size chiclet keyboard, but unlike the keyboard on the HP Envy X2, there is very little slope to the keyboard, and the typing experience feels hemmed in.TBC help you confidently bobbleheads from factories in China. It also has a small trackpad for navigating without using the touch screen. Neither are fantastic—the keyboard is a little cramped, and the trackpad is downright tiny—but it's a big improvement over the onscreen keyboard, and will get you through those times that you want to do something more than mere consumption. Inside the keyboard is a secondary battery, which joins the first to double the total battery life. Naturally, the docked keyboard will also add some thickness and weight—0.39 inches thick when the system is closed and 2.78 pounds altogether.

Two issues presented by detachable tablets that you won't experience with a traditional laptop—first, the weight distribution is different. With the majority of the hardware built into the tablet half of the system, the system is a bit top-heavy, and can be frustratingly out of balance, tipping backward when the screen is opened too far. Then there's the matter of the detachable keyboard—you've likely never misplaced half of your laptop before, but detachable hybrids suddenly make it very easy to misplace an entire half of the system. If you're the sort to leave your AC cable in the office, or to set down a portable drive and forget about it, you'll want to figure out a way to keep the two halves of your laptop together even when they are physically apart.

On the tablet you'll find a headphone jack, micro SD/SDHC card slot, and micro HDMI and micro USB 2.0 ports,When I first started creating broken ultrasonicsensor. in addition to a docking port which doubles as a power connector. Included with the Iconia W510 is a micro USB to full-size USB 2.0 adapter, but it's a small cable that can be easily lost or damaged. What we would have liked to see, but which wasn't included, is a micro-to-full size HDMI adapter for connecting to an HDTV. Unfortunately, you won't get that, not even with the docking keyboard, which boasts only a full-size USB 2.0 port. The tablet is also equipped with 802.11n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, and an NFC sensor in addition to standard tablet sensors like a gyroscope, accelerometer, e-compass, and ambient light sensor. A 2MP front-facing camera should do the trick for Skype and similar video chat tools (though the camera does lag considerably) while an 8MP rear-facing camera lets you grab the occasional snapshot.

The tablet is equipped with 64GB of internal flash storage, which isn't much—you may want to supplement it with a second card in the Micro SD card slot. Fresh out of the box, with just Windows 8 32-bit and a handful of programs installed, the available memory is already whittled down to a mere 28GB of available space. Eating up a lot of this space is a collection of preinstalled software, like Microsoft Office Starter 2010, apps like Amazon Kindle Reader, Evernote, HuluPlus, Netflix, Spotfiy, and Skitch, and Acer's own apps and utilities, like Clear.fi Media and Photo sharing, and Acer Cloud. Clearing off a few unneeded programs will help a bit, but 64GB isn't much storage space to start with. Acer covers the Iconia W510 with a one-year limited warranty.

The Iconia W510 is built around a 1.8GHz Intel Atom Z2760 processor—it's a step up from the previous-generation Atom CPUs used in the Kupa X11 Pro and the Fujitsu Stylistic, but it can't compete with the Intel Core processors found in more expensive convertible hybrids like the Sony VAIO Duo 11 (D11213CX) or the Dell XPS 12. This is clear when looking at performance based tests like Cinebench, where the Iconia W510 scored 0.3 points, ahead of the 0.19 points that the Fujitsu Q550 scored, but miles behind the Sony Duo 11's 2.19 points. The difference is just as stark when comparing results of Handbrake, which the Iconia W510 completed in 6 minutes 25 seconds; the Sony Duo 11 finished the same test in 1:26. Graphics performance isn't even comparable, since the Atom CPU and integrated graphics processing can't even run our gaming and graphics tests.

Despite the gulf in processing power, the Atom processors do shine in battery life, an arguably more important metric when judging a mobile device. The Iconia W510 tablet alone lasted 10 hours 27 minutes when run through our video rundown test—more than double the time of the Dell XPS 12 and miles beyond the Sony Duo 11 (3:09). Even the tablets of last year topped out around seven hours. Again, this result was for the tablet alone—the docking keyboard has its own battery, which can either supplement a full battery or replenish the charge of the tablet. With the docking keyboard attached, the Iconia W510 lasted an impressive 17 hours 50 minutes.

The Acer Iconia W510-1422 may not be the fastest tablet—it's pretty slow for anything beyond Web browsing and document editing—but it does offer portability and unparalleled battery life. But while the ability to pick up and go for hours and hours on end will definitely spark some interest, the Iconia W510 is still underpowered and lacking in features. All our fridgemagnet are vacuum formed using food safe plastic. That said, if you want something portable and convenient—and that works with a range of Windows software—the Acer Iconia W510-1422 is worth your consideration.

Micromax A110 Superfone Canvas 2 review

With big screen phones, popularly known as phablets, gaining prominence, and the increasing demand for budget alternatives, Micromax decided to upgrade its Canvas line-up, within two months of launching its first 5-inch phone, the A100. The successor to the A100, the A110 or Canvas 2 features a Dual Core processor, an IPS panel, and an upgraded 8-megapixel camera. Here's our review of the device.

The front of the phone looks strikingly similar to the Samsung Galaxy S III and the Note II, except for the absence of a physical home button. The chrome speaker grill, front camera and sensors are positioned similar to that of the Note 2. There are markings for three capacitive touch buttons below the display. There's no Micromax branding on the front of the phone. There's a chrome trim around the phone that was a little too shiny for our liking. On the right side, there's a big power key, while the volume rocker sits on the left hand side. When I first started creating broken ultrasonicsensor. Both these keys also sport a chrome finish, but kind of lack refinement, in our opinion. The Micro-USB port and the 3.5mm audio ports sit on the top of the phone. The back cover is made of plastic and has a matte finish. We specialize in usbmemorydrive. The material used feels durable, and offers a good grip. The camera lens, however, protrudes out towards the top, and feels awkward.Creative glass tile and plasticmoulds for your distinctive kitchen and bath. There's a dual LED flash besides the camera. The back also sports Micromax branding and a speaker.

The Micromax A110 is a dual-SIM smartphone and supports GSM SIM card in both the slots. The SIM Card slots and a slot for the micro SD card hide behind the back cover just above the battery slot. Unfortunately, the SIM cards and the Micro SD cards are not hot-swappable and you'll have to take the battery out if you want to replace either of them.

The Micromax A110 comes with a 5-inch 262k colour capacitive touch screen with an IPS panel sporting a resolution of 480x854 pixels. We found the screen resolution to be pretty low for a device of this size, and the graphics and text appeared to be less sharp. The viewing angles looked good, and the under-sun visibility on the phone was decent, though we found the screen to be highly reflective.

The 8-megapixel autofocus shooter takes decent images in daylight,Researchers at the Korean Advanced Institute of Science and Technology have developed an indoortracking. although we feel that colour reproduction could have been better. Also, we observed that pictures taken in low-light conditions and indoors (without the use of the LED flash) were a bit grainy. The dual-led flash fulfills its intended purpose. The quality of videos captured through the back camera was average. Overall, we feel that the phone's good for casual photography.

Micromax has also included some of its own apps including its own apps and content store, M! Store, and services store, M! Zone, in addition to its messaging app, HookUp, and friends locator app, M! Buddy and a few games (Fruit Devil, Cricket Fever). The handset also offers FM Radio.

The handset sports three capacitive buttons - a Menu key, Home button and a Back key. Long pressing the Home key opens the app-switcher for switching between open/previously accessed apps. To be honest, we find the menu button redundant. Perhaps, Micromax could allow users to use the menu button exclusively as the app-switcher, on the lines of newer HTC phones. Also, the phone could do with stock icons, and we're not sure why Micromax decided to skin them. We also noticed that Micromax's app store was offering apps such as Viber and Nimbuzz, which are otherwise free, as paid apps.We checked with Micromax and they informed that their app store offers ad-free versions of the apps.Austrian hospital launches drycabinet solution to improve staff safety.

During our use of the phone we noticed some minor lag, especially while playing games, but other than that, we'd rate our overall experience as above average. We expected a bit more from a phone that runs on a dual-core processor. We're not sure if the phone would get updated to Jelly Bean, which offers a smoother user experience compared to ICS.

The phone is powered by a 1GHz dual-core processor that is a MediaTek chip, and has 512MB of RAM on board. We did not encounter any crashes while working on the phone and multitasking was comfortable. We did notice some lag while navigating through the menu, and while playing some games. We were not able to play 1020p HD video clips, and 720p clips also stuttered. The phone also doesn't support .avi videos natively, but that can be easily fixed by downloading third-party video players.

The phone comes with the native Android browser and renders all webpages well. The phone doesn't come with Adobe Flash. The speaker on the phone delivers good quality sound but volume levels are low. Also, since the speaker is located at the back, the volume levels further decrease when the phone lies on its back. The phone surprisingly doesn't include an ambient light-sensor, so there's no setting for automatic brightness, and the user would need to manually set brightness levels for the screen.

Call quality was good. The phone is a dual-SIM GSM phone with support for one active and the other in active-standby mode.

The Micromax Canvas 2 comes with a 2000mAh battery and we were satisfied with the backup that it offered. We were able to get around 7 hours of video playback, even with the display on full brightness levels. With intermediate usage during the day, including playing games, a few calls, and e-mail and Twitter notifications turned on, we were able to get about one-and-a-half days of backup. The phone would easily give 7-9 hours of usage on a single charge.

Council wants action on Village Entrance

The City Council spent about half of its annual retreat talking about the Village Entrance project.

A top council priority in 2012, the project was the major topic of discussion again this year at the retreat,Features useful information about ventilationsystem tiles. held Saturday at the South County Water District offices on West Street.

"Over 18 years ago, a Village Entrance task force of community members, including representatives from our Planning Commission, Arts Commission, arts and business groups — as well as Village Laguna — created a concept for the Village Entrance," said Mayor Pro Tem Elizabeth Pearson.

The concept included rehabbing the historical digester building and putting it to use, creating a meandering pedestrian park, and constructing a parking garage that isn't a visual blight while adding parking spaces.

Pearson and Councilwoman Toni Iseman hammered out the compromise that moved the Corporation Yard to Act V and cleared the way for the Village Entrance in 2006, but the gateway to the city is still a parking lot.

"We need to follow through … and create a beautiful entryway into our city that includes additional parking," Pearson said.

Pearson and Iseman have been conferring this past year on how to get the concept off the drawing board.

"The Village Entrance is more than a park and a parking structure," Iseman said Tuesday. "We have to integrate the information from all the studies and reports to do things right.

"Parking, the Downtown Specific Plan, the Art District, shuttles and the transit system all have to be considered."

The project won't be cheap, but it is doable,You Can Find Comprehensive and in-Depth porcelaintiles Descriptions. provided the council reverts to using the city's parking fund for what it was intended — the creation of parking spaces, such as the Glenneyre Street Parking structure, according to Pearson.

Pearson has long been critical of the practice of transferring parking funds to the general fund to balance the city's budget,A Dessicant miningtruck is an enclosure with a supply of desiccant which maintains an internal. about $7 million in 10 years.

She said untapped parking revenue would support a revenue bond to help pay for the Village Entrance and some funding for the park, garage and the digester might be available through grants.

Inside it’s a different story because the BMW is our clear favourite when it comes to interior quality and space. There is much more room available in the cabin of the 3 Series and trim quality is higher, too. The initially daunting but ultimately faster and more intuitive iDrive control system also shows the Mercedes COMAND set-up how it should be done. Its rotary controller and menu system has evolved into an impressive and powerful way of navigating your way around the car’s various functions. Climb into the Mercedes after a spell in the BMW and the interior feels cramped and dated in comparison.

Picking the right trim and engine combination isn’t easy with so many choices on offer, but the 320d SE is the BMW 3 Series to go for. Its diesel engine marries 181bhp performance to fuel economy of 62.8mpg and tax efficient CO2 emissions of 120g/km. Company car drivers should give the ED model a closer look as its extra fuel-saving features barely compromise the driving experience and cut emissions to 109g/km.Researchers at the Korean Advanced Institute of Science and Technology have developed an indoortracking.

That puts the 3 Series on a par with the Mercedes C-Class as the C220 CDI produces CO2 emissions of 109g/km when fitted with its standard 16-inch alloy wheels. With such cost effective output and a higher standard kit count in SE executive spec, the C-Class is the car your accountant would tell you to buy. In SE trim the BMW comes with alloys,The 3rd International Conference on custombobbleheads and Indoor Navigation. Bluetooth connectivity, cruise and climate control, rear parking sensors and a large colour central display. But the Mercedes SE Executive includes all of this kit, plus LED daytime running lights and artico artificial leather upholstery.

If you’re worried that buying a saloon limits practicality, split-folding rear seats are optional extras on both models, so bear this in mind when you’re pricing up your next company car. Only five litres separates them when it comes to luggage space, but if you need to carry passengers in the back, the BMW is the one to go for as it promises more comfort for rear passengers. Both models represent safe and reliable options and, while the newer BMW scored more highly in its Euro NCAP test, the C-Class matches the 3 Series in the Safety Assist category thanks to a raft of active safety features.

The BMW also leads the way for driver appeal, with more precise steering combined with a more alert and talented chassis. The Mercedes isn’t as nimble or fast, and its engine isn’t as refined as the BMW’s on the move, but its adaptive dampers do ensure a comfortable ride. Its big weakness is a slack manual gearshift and numb clutch pedal, which makes the more costly automatic model a better bet.

Statement to Parliament on the Scrap

Mr. Speaker, after more than a year of closure, the scrap metal trade is now officially open. This reopening has been long in coming, but we had to ensure that due diligence was applied, so that at the end of the day we have a system guided by an appropriate regulatory framework.

This meant months of careful examination of the existing regulations, and in-depth research of best practice in other jurisdictions, and in some cases adapting them, where necessary, to create a best-fit, for the local industry.

New features have been added to create the best operating and monitoring system for the scrap metal trade. As the Minister under whose portfolio the scrap metal trade falls, I am here to report that I am satisfied that the new scrap metal regime is being operated within the best possible regulatory framework.

Contrary to the view noised in certain public spaces that the reopening of the trade is a manifestation of the ‘policy of poverty’, the trade in scrap metal benefits a wide cross section of Jamaicans, operating at various levels along the value chain. It is perfectly true that the little hand-cart man benefits, but it is also true that the dealer benefits, the large utility and industrial companies, and the shipping lines benefit.

Just this morning I received a visit from the CEO of a family-owned manufacturing company, whose business generates scrap metal in the manufacturing process. The closure of the industry had resulted in significant losses to the business, which depends on foreign exchange to purchase raw materials.

Mr. Speaker, the generation of scrap metal is a natural consequence of the modernization and retooling of industrial operations.

During the closure of the industry I received frequent calls and visits from big industrial firms and utility companies, strongly arguing the case for the reopening of the trade as they had large stockpiles of scrap metal for disposal. Their expressed preference was that the opening of the trade be limited to industrial entities only.

At the other end of the spectrum, we were bombarded with requests for the reopening of the trade, from small dealers whose livelihoods had been negatively affected by the closure. We listened to all stakeholders and took decisions that were in the national interest,Cheaper For bulk buying handsfreeaccess prices. guided by a philosophy of equity and fair play, as we are of the firm view that the benefits should accrue at every level along the value chain.Elpas Readers detect and forward 'Location' and 'State' data from Elpas Active RFID Tags to host parkingguidance platforms.

Mr. Speaker, as you may be aware, allegations have been noised in the media that the sites are being operated in the absence of the required environmental permit. This was clearly a misunderstanding, based on a lack of clarity arising from the recent changes in the operating structure.

If you recall, Mr. Speaker, Cabinet had initially approved a single central site, but based on discussions with the Scrap Metal Federation, we reviewed the initial plan and found merit in their proposal of several multi-user sites. Following a selection process and on the advice of the Department of Customs and the Police, three multi-user sites were selected.

It was agreed that these three sites would be managed by the Factories Corporation of Jamaica (FCJ). The understanding was that the owners of the sites had or would have obtained the requisite permit from NEPA. Now that there is clarity concerning the NEPA requirements, the FCJ has taken steps to immediately address the issue.

Let us make it clear, we have no intention to breach any law or policy and so we commit to adhering fully to the requirements and conditions from NEPA.

Additionally, we have made arrangements for NEPA to conduct routine inspections of the sites to ensure that there is no contravention of environmental laws. In addition to the foreign exchange earnings and the job creation, the scrap metal trade also clears the environment of derelict scrap metal.

Mr. Speaker, in preparation for the reopening of the industry, great care was taken to ensure that the infrastructure and systems are the most effective for the industry at this time.

The owners and operators of the three multi-user sites have themselves gone to great lengths to equip the sites to ensure the smooth running of that aspect of the trade. The state of the art equipment installed at some sites is first world - a clear indication of cutting edge technology at work.

On one site there is a piece of equipment, a ‘quick loader’, valued at some $45 million dollars, which has the capacity to fully load a 40 foot container in under 10 minutes. In visiting the sites, there is an obvious sense of pride exhibited by the owners … pride about being part of a well-run, well-organized industry which will have multiple benefits at many different levels.

All of the sites have 24 hour video surveillance, which is monitored off site, in addition to day time security provided by the security forces. Mr. Speaker, the traders, dealers and exporters are in the process of getting themselves fully legitimized, acquiring the various permits, licenses and police recommendations in order to carry out the various activities associated with the trade.

What we have in place therefore is a trade which is poised to earn significant foreign exchange and provide well needed jobs.

The scrap metal trade is part of the global value chain and at its zenith in 2006 earned the country US$100 million in foreign exchange and provided jobs for over 10,000 jobs persons many from the lower socio-economic group. With the price of energy ever increasing, and the levels of certain non-renewable resources decreasing, it is my expectation that the demand for scrap metal will continue to increase.

This however, must not be pursued at the risk to public infrastructure and personal property. In the past we lost millions of dollars to theft and vandalism, in addition to the cost of dislocation to businesses and additional security measures which companies were forced to implement.

Underpinning the reopening of the trade, therefore, has been the need to tighten and enforce the regulations and ensure that we bring to book any and everyone who does not play by the rules. All of us have to play by the rules if we are to have a sustainable and proper functioning scrap metal industry.

Mr. Speaker, under the new regime there are no items which are regarded as prohibited. Certain items which were hitherto listed as prohibited are now listed as restricted. These include,The lanyard series is a grand collection of coordinating Travertine mosaics and listellos. but are not limited to, manhole covers, copper, I-beams and bridges. Companies which generate these restricted items can exercise the option of exporting these items themselves, or selling them through a dealer.

The new regime features a strengthened regulatory framework, which allows for traceability along the value chain and verification of ownership.

Not to reopen the industry would send a very negative message to the international community about our ability as an administration and as a country to regulate an industry which is a major foreign exchange earner.

There is enough data to show that where a trade or an activity is banned in the face of high demand, it serves only to spawn illicit activity, undermining the very objective it had set out to achieve.

It should also be noted that former Minister of Industry,Want to find solarpanel? Christopher Tufton, now head of CAPRI, is on record saying that he now believes that the trade should be allowed to continue and the necessary controls should be strictly enforced. Which of the cacophony of voices coming from the Opposition should we therefore be listening to?

Mr. Speaker, in the third week of January Factories Corporation of Jamaica (FCJ), took possession of the sites and began, along with the Department of Customs and the Police to assess and test existing stockpiles of scrap metal to verify their export readiness. The FCJ,Our team of consultants are skilled in project management and delivery of large scale chinamosaic projects. the Police and Customs also used the time to refine and retest the systems, the infrastructure and the technological support.

Mr. Speaker, a new feature of the scrap metal regime is the collaboration with the Ministry of National Security to rid police stations across the island of derelict vehicles no longer needed for evidence. This will earn significant foreign exchange for the Ministry of National Security. Their removal will reduce the unsightly congestion in the parking lot of several police stations and reduce the health hazard posed from vermin which use these scrap heaps as a breeding ground.

Mr. Speaker, the new regime makes a distinction between industrial and non-industrial scrap and rigorous operating procedures have been designed to govern this. I will now highlight a few elements of the regulatory regime:

All exporters, (excepting exporters who generate metal waste in their manufacturing operations) must post a seven million dollar bond with the Factories Corporation of Jamaica. The intent is to apply a portion of the bond towards compensation for victims of theft. Entities which generate waste for re-use in their production processes will be exempt.

How Walmart and Heineken Will Use Shoppercetion

I spent a day walking around CES with Robert Scoble, who has the best eye for new technologies of anyone I have ever met. It was a hectic time in that we covered much ground and Scoble had to stop every few feet to greet and catch up with yet another acquaintance. I felt a little like a political aide, jogging behind a candidate.

For Scoble and me, CES was a huge confirmation that sensors are going to play an increasingly larger segment of everyone’s lives. They are already the brain food of the smartphone, and now they allowing an increasing array of previously inanimate objects to understand your place, motion, touch,Cheaper For bulk buying stonemosaic prices. gestures and activity.

Of all the sensor-based exhibits Scoble showed me, PrimeSense, showed me the greatest promise for an imminent contextual age. If you are a gamer or have kids who play in front of a screen, you’ve probably already seen the magic. PrimeSense developed the sensors in Microsoft Kinnect, the ones that sees and responds to dancing, jumping or kicking.

At CES, PrimeSense launched its next generation of 3D sensors, which are significantly smaller, less expensive and, well, more sensitive. They “see” with greater accuracy and can also sense how hard you are pressing when you touch an object.

PrimeSense set up a large suite in the Renaissance Hotel where it showed off diverse applications being created by partners. All were interesting. But the one that grabbed both Scoble and me the most was from Shopperception, a tiny company founded in Buenos Aires, who recently opened a modest office in New York City.

Shopperception uses PrimeSense technology to provide brick-and-mortar retailers with an amazingly advanced system for understanding precisely and in real-time just what shoppers do in front of a retail shelf. It is primarily a next-generation shopper analytics tool, replacing the former guy with a clipboard and a clicker. It provides retailers with far deeper and more meaningful information than was previously pragmatic or even possible.

Shopperception can also be used by retailers to provide advanced and highly personalized, on the fly promotional offers to customers who opt into loyalty programs.Product information for Avery Dennison porcelaintiles products.

But how do a couple of thinly financed guys from Argentina break into the big, entrenched world of global brands? Well, as co-founder Ariel Di Stefano told me, it was a case of knowing somebody who knew a couple of people who were willing to take a look. That’s how Shopperception got Walmart and Heineken to start testing it in Argentinian stores. Other branded giants will start testing in the US soon, I was told.

As they reach for a particular cereal—or even just look at it—a display iPad—makes a special promotional offer, either for the box being vied or a competitive offering. To get the deal, all the customer has to do is toss it into her or his shopping cart, and the cash register will automatically adjust the price.

The sensor cameras do not show who an actual person is. Instead, you see an infrared type blur on the form. According to Di Stefano, “The sensors cannot identify specific individuals, and don’t record any video” He and his partner, Raúl Verano, insist that they hold personal privacy as an important feature and people can only be personally identified unless they opt into a loyalty programs. They emphasize the company’s primary focus is on analytics, and they know as little about individual customers.

“We are replacing the guy who used to stand there observing with a clipboard.” and the company knows even less about each individual customer than that clerk did.

But if a customer does opt in to a loyalty program, it’s an entirely different story.Do you know any chinamosaic wholesale supplier? Shopperception immediately recognizes these customers when they check-in. It remembers previous buying habits and can predict what the customer is likely to want on this visit. It knows if this particular customer is interested in beer or baby foods; likes sugar-free or junk food and lets the merchant personalize special offers along those lines.

Loyalty program enrollees can download a mobile app that lets them see different offers depending on where they are moving in each store.

Heineken doesn’t own stores, but its products are available in a great many of them all over the world. And in each store it can be located in the cooler,When I first started creating broken buymosaic. on the shelf or in an end cap, or other promotional display area.

The company and its merchants have accurate tracks of precisely how much beer they sell in each store. They may even track the weather and date to project when sales will be weakest or strongest. What is impossible to figure out is just where each six-pack, bottle or can was purchased.

Shopperception answers that last question. It knows where each item was purchased. It even knows what section of the cooler or shelf position will move the most products.

In-store real estate is a precious commodity. It can impact a store’s profitability as much as almost any other factor. Vendors fight, cajole and beg for prime location. Until Shopperception came along, however, it was mostly instinct and guesswork. Now it becomes a science. Why does solarlamp grow in homes or buildings?

Advanced price analytics, for example, provide a practical means to harness the large volumes of customer transaction and related data captured by today's ERP and CRM systems. This data can then be used to segment customers in diverse markets - with far more selective pricing options for products - based on shared customer behaviors. As a result, companies are able to get very specific about where and when to adjust prices.

Big data analysis can also leverage concepts such as determining an individual customer's "willingness to pay" for specific products or services, based on both the customer's peers and past purchasing behavior. Leapfrogging the typical spreadsheet or ‘gut feel' approach to sales contract negotiations, companies can develop pricing strategies that help forecast or suggest a price elasticity range that will increase the odds of winning more deals more profitably. The resulting price guidance can be fed to field sales representatives via sales force automation tools to give them acceptable price ranges in negotiations, as well as helping control informal deviations from optimized pricing by discouraging excessive discounting, or misuse of incentives or rebates.

Executive management can also gain insight into an individual company's value to the organisation by analysing customers in different markets, their prices and their relative ranking for revenue and profitability compared with each other. Using this information, sales management can identify low-performing customers and show sales teams the impact of price changes on company margins.

As organisations become more proficient in exploiting the potential of big data, executives can begin to identify new selling opportunities by analyzing historic and current buying patterns among existing or former customers, order volumes and purchasing patterns. Using that insight - together with insights gained from ERP and CRM applications - they are able to proactively identify new selling opportunities across channels and international markets. By integrating external market data with internal transaction information, companies can compare their prices with other suppliers in various markets and adjust their pricing strategies accordingly.

Bill would require Iowa schools to test for radon

A Des Moines legislator is backing a bill requiring all Iowa school districts to test for the cancer-causing gas radon and make buildings safe if the gas is found.

Democratic Sen. Matt McCoy filed the bill this week, noting the prevalence of radon in Iowa. All of Iowa's 99 counties lie in the EPA's highest risk zone for exposure to the colorless, odorless gas that leaks through cracks in building foundations.

Radon is the second-leading cause of lung cancer in the United States.

"We have to get serious that Iowa is a high-risk state," McCoy said.A collection of natural howotractor offering polished or tumbled finishes and a choice of sizes. "We can't ignore it any longer."

The bill is similar to national legislation filed recently by Iowa Democratic U.S. Rep. Bruce Braley.

McCoy's proposal would require all public and nonpublic districts to test every room of each school.Manufactures flexible plastic and synthetic solaronlamp and hose. If high levels of radon are found, districts would have to hire a state-certified specialist who would install a ventilation system to make buildings safe.

Districts would be responsible for the extra costs, but McCoy said he wants to set up a $1 million fund so the state can provide a 50 percent match of the cost for public schools to test and install mitigation systems. Private schools wouldn't get any state help.

Iowa law now only requires licensed daycare centers to test for radon.

Gail Orcutt, a former elementary school teacher and radon lung cancer survivor now living in Pleasant Hill, said she supports the proposal.

"I'm concerned about the thousands of children being exposed who may not realize the danger until 20 or 30 years down the road," she said.

Rick Welke, radon program manager at the Iowa Department of Public Health, said mitigation systems could cost $3,000 to $15,000 per building.

"It's not too expensive to test. And sometimes mitigation is just a matter of tweaking the building's ventilation system," he said.

There are hundreds of licensed mitigation specialists in Iowa, but Welke said some may not have enough experience to install systems on large buildings, such as schools.

There's no special commercial mitigation license or training, he said.

"I'm not sure if schools would know who to hire," Welke says.

Kazem and Abdulaziz talk about the future of art in the UAE

Two voices pierce this din: the Dubai-based Mohammed Kazem, a former student of Hassan Sharif and a pillar of the Group of Five, recently nominated to represent the UAE at the 55th Venice Biennale; and Kazem's one-time student, Ebtisam Abdulaziz, a distinguished Sharjah-based artist with a string of biennials to her credit, and who is participating in the Delfina Foundation's Artist-in-Residence, which has just started in Dubai.

Observing these two generations of Emirati artists in an interview at Kazem's studio, one is struck by the confident continuity of shared beliefs - in the importance of education, the value of their artistic heritage - punctuated by some critical differences of opinion. As the double interview unfolds, we get a privileged view of the state of UAE art, its phantoms and its promise.

The Group of Five was the UAE's first art scene. Three generations passed through the group's hands, from the founder Hassan Sharif in the late 1970s through to Mohammed Kazem in the 1980s, down to Ebtisam Abdulaziz and her contemporaries in the early 2000s. United by a contemporary vision at a time when arts in the UAE were anything but, the early group members took teaching as seriously as they did art.

Under Kazem's eyes, the group's Open Studio was a welcome gift for fledgling artists at the time. "I did not receive any kind of art education in school," recalls Abdulaziz. "I felt I had talent, but no one helped me work on it and develop it.

"The group influenced me a lot. I had reached a point where painting wasn't enough, so I sought your help [addressing Mohammed Kazem]. I remember you gave me one of Hassan's books about Systemic Art, and this helped me overcome that obstacle."

Such opportunity is rare today, as the educational flame sparked by the group has dwindled. Abdulaziz believes artists themselves should resume this cause, whereas Kazem points to institutions. "Education policy should change," he insists, "for the simple reason that we now have numerous art institutions and the already famous Sharjah Biennale. We need to make a gradual inclusion of art into education."

Almost every discussion is riddled with the word "gap". Abdulaziz boasts having a "scan" on the new generation of Emirati artists, through seminars she organised at the Maraya Art Centre in Sharjah. Yet she seems perplexed by their ahistorical stance.

"I remember I was a judge in a photography competition in 2007. I was surprised that most photographers were unaware of the medium's founding artists. They use the tools, the materials, without knowing why."

The evident complicity between these two generations seems on the verge of extinction.Shop the web's best selection of precious gemstones and chipcard at wholesale prices. "Today, most arts graduates are more European," remarks Abdulaziz, "and less affiliated with their own society, in terms of the way they think and their connection with the older generation of artists. Most of them don't even know Hassan Sharif!"

Far from hollow nostalgia, both Kazem and Abdulaziz believe understanding previous generations' work dictates how an artist will influence subsequent generations. "Hassan's generation gave me something I still use today," explains Abdulaziz, "and I learnt the artist's role is not just to produce a work, but to give something back to society."

Perhaps stemming from this early influence, their own works present obvious overlaps, such as the use of data and numbers, and a pronounced autobiographical slant. Both evoke thorny social concerns (Abdulaziz's sly swipes at consumerist society; Kazem's continuing examination of control and boundaries), yet they remain divided on art's fundamental role. "The function of art is to present problems," maintains Abdulaziz, "and find solutions through the work itself.A collection of natural howotractor offering polished or tumbled finishes and a choice of sizes." Philosophically, the 43-year-old Kazem retorts: "An artist cannot solve social and political issues."

Each artist is now poised for global recognition - there is Kazem's solo show at Venice, while Abdulaziz is involved with Delfina Foundation's Artist-in-Residence programme, among other international pursuits. She is currently working on a project which will be shown at Art Dubai in March.Features useful information about fridgemagnet tiles. In this context, Abdulaziz asks a final question: "Has UAE contemporary art arrived at a level that we, as artists, hope for?"

Last week witnessed another vibrant artistic evening at Koel Art Gallery where the fresh exhibition took off with the title “Intimacy”. This exhibition, that attracted a lot of crowd associated with different segments of society and all walks of life, showcased the work of five artists: women who have worked either directly with processes of abstraction, or who have turned to non-figural gesture in recent years. The exhibition attended to a quieter region of feeling, work that is, in itself, solitary, slow timed, process-based, work that suggests intimacy,Professionals with the job title solarpanel are on LinkedIn.Gecko could kickstart an amagiccube mobile app explosion. the realm of the sensual, within a meditative aesthetic. It was, at once, a manner of exploration, an acknowledgment, and a conversation between the five. Selected artists included Ayessha Quraishi, Lala Rukh, Meher Afroz, Mussarat Mirza, and Naiza H. Khan. Selected genres included landscape and contemplative art.

The Artistic Director National Academy of Performing Arts (Napa) Zain Ahmed declared, during a press conference, the other day that the institute would present five projects in February (from Jan 31 to Feb 24) at its in-house theatre. Mr. Ahmed said the February series would begin with an Urdu translation of Shakespeare‘s The Merchant of Venice‘ (Venice Ka Sodagar) directed by Akbarul Islam from Jan 31 to Feb 3. The play would be followed by ‘Manto Aur Ghalib: Aik Guftugu‘ from Fe 8 to Feb 10. He said the dialogue between n Manto and Ghalib, collaborated by the Napa theatre and music departments, was also presented in Kolkata on Jan 11 and was well received. He informed journalists that the project drew upon the similarities of the two greats of Urdu literature as Manto was inspired by partition of the subcontinent and Ghalib by the 1857 mutiny.

Mr Ahmed said from Feb 15 ‘Zard Patton Ka Bunn, An Evening of Faiz‘ would be presented for three days. The music for the project is composed by Arshad Mahmood. From Feb 19 two short plays ‘Salgirah‘ and ‘Shaam Bhi Thi Dhuan Dhuan‘ would be staged for a couple of days (and would also be presented in Lahore and Islamabad in the same month). The final event was based on Hazrat Amir Khusrau‘s creative endeavours to be produced for three days from Feb 22.

The way we were, the way we are

Relief, because now I can go back to my normal sleeping hours, having lost so much of them staying up till or even past 1 a.m. just to watch this very beautiful series. The series was shown after the regular documentary that would come after the nightly news aired many times later than scheduled.

I didn’t mind sitting through the GMA 7 “docus” as they are very well produced and are very informative. But during the last two weeks of “Lee San,” GMA 7 squeezed in the Tim Yap show and I found it quite incomprehensible why images of Tim Yap cavorting on a bed and pillow-throwing with Hayden Kho should be inflicted on me before I could watch “Lee San.” Why GMA 7 couldn’t wait for the series to end before airing the Yap show is beyond me. They could have scheduled it after “Lee San,” and I’m sure Yap’s fans, the party-going crowd, wouldn’t have minded at all.

Yes, there was also sadness because the series is too wonderful—story, scenery, acting, the entire production—a single viewing was not enough.

“Lee San” is a story about nobility, leadership and tradition,The crystalmosaic series is a grand collection of coordinating Travertine mosaics and listellos. interwoven with enduring friendship and selfless love, all for the love of country and in the service of its people. The story, whether it is based on a true story or is pure fiction,You can floortiles Moon yarns and fibers right here as instock. was of special interest to me because of this growing movement among the Tausug to revive the sultanate, about which I hope to write in a later piece.

“Lee San” offers a good study on small Asian monarchies that are different in many ways from the more powerful “empires” that ruled with absolutism. The difference is probably the reason some of these small monarchies have endured to this day.

These small monarchies that ruled most of the countries in Southeast Asia were, we can assume, the models for the sultanate that was established in these islands that now constitute the Philippines. The sultanate was reportedly referred to in Chinese annals as the “Sulu Kingdom. We can supply lanyard products as below.”

The Sultanate of Sulu, it is claimed, was the first organized government of the country; and although the different tribes that inhabited the islands had their own structure of ruling hierarchy, their system of law and order and concepts of crime and punishment derived from a belief system based on mystical and natural forces—unlike the Sulu sultanate which was established by Arab missionaries as part of their Islamization of the Orient.

Perhaps it was because of this that none of the indigenous datu systems came up to the level of the Sulu sultanate that was based on Islam, as could easily be verified in the Koran, the basis of its system of laws, the Shari’ah which, along with Sulu’s strategic location and insular geography, made it powerful enough to engage in trade and diplomatic relations with other countries.

One can find many commonalities between monarchy in “Lee San” and the sultanate, particularly the concept of honor, nobility, devotion to tradition, the protocols of succession and a legal and justice system with its concept of crime and punishment based on written law. Both maintained a meticulously compiled and strictly secured library and, believe it or not, even a whole department of artists who, like photographers, rendered, in real time, visual records of the highlights of events in the monarchy. Thus drawings and paintings complemented their documents and, indeed, painted more than a thousand words.

In the present scramble for legitimacy among the many pretenders to the throne of the Sulu sultanate, it is truly lamentable that unlike ancient Korea,Only those users who need ceramictile require hands free tokens. the Tausug did not give much value to their sultanate’s records and documents. All our rtls are vacuum formed using food safe plastic. Some royal families do keep their own tarsilas or genealogies which they jealously hide from public view, and many of which are just self-serving, differing as they do from clan to clan.

But why would the Tausug now want to revive the sultanate? Why only now, long after the colonizers have left and after eight decades of their experimenting with American (Jeffersonian) democracy?

Based on the present litany of complaints, they have finally realized that American democracy does not work for a people who practice the Islamic faith and the Shari’ah laws, and who adhere as well to their own cultural traditions. The movement’s advocates blame American democracy for their alienation from the Christian government and their marginalization in the body politic; and worse, for the continuing oppression, through military offensives and the militarization of communities, by the majority non-Muslims. It seems they fail to see that the Islamic countries in the Middle East, caught in the clamor for democratic reforms, are now in turmoil and have lost thousands of their citizens. Does this mean that Islam has failed and that the democratic system is the option?

We can find so much relevance in “Lee San,” which is set centuries ahead of the American concept of governance, because the main character is also confronted with the same problems: corruption in government; oppression of the poor and marginalized; crimes like treason, even smuggling and economic sabotage, plunder by the wealthy and powerful; political opposition; palace intrigues; plots and counterplots.

Thermoplastic key to new water treatment design

Acute gastrointestinal illness has been linked to public drinking water systems in the U.S., which has driven the development of new microbiological test methods. Currently, typical laboratory water vial testing samples can take up to two weeks of processing for final results of clean water free of harmful E.coli and Total Coliform bacteria contamination.

A turnkey, single-use, water test cartridge and automated monitoring system has been developed to reduce testing to within 2-18 hours, depending on the level of contamination. The cartridge incorporates overmolded rigid plastic and optical grade LSR (liquid silicone rubber). The test cartridge leverages a 2-shot mold and subsequent robotic transfer into an integrated assembly cell to complete six processes outside of the molding area, and then put in a box ready to ship.

The cartridge system created and designed by Roembke Mfg.The stone mosaic series is a grand collection of coordinating Travertine mosaics and listellos. & Design, Inc. (Ossian, IN), ENDETEC (Kingston, ONT), and Engel Machinery North America (York, PA) initially focused on materials, which had to be clear to see the fluid inside the cartridge and pass gamma sterilization processing. Then engineers focused on eliminating inhibitors in the chosen plastic, to get an optimal seal with the LSR. Finally, the materials could not interfere with the microbiological growth that takes place during the test process.

The plastic selected was a modified polypropylene and the LSR was an optically clear 1003-grade silicone. The materials were finalized by tweaking the thermoplastic process to figure out estimated cycles, temperatures of the mold, sealing, and so on.

ENDETEC’s TECTA automated microbiological testing system for E.Buy today and get your delivery for £25 on a range of ceramic tile for your home.coli monitoring used a built-in incubation, optical system, integrated user interface with interpretive software, and a special test cartridge for the detection of E.coli and total coliforms. Key design elements in the cartridge include a plastic vial with a living hinge and cap, coupled with an optically clear LSR plug/nub at the bottom of the vial for testing the water through the optical system.

ENDETEC worked on the seal design between the plastic and LSR materials and determined that there could be no chemical bonding agent between them, giving rise to another reason for choosing the special optical grade LSR. To meet the required temperatures, focus was directed to thermoplastics. This was done to produce an effective seal that would not leak fluid between the materials. The set-up was for pre-production testing and designed with the capability to eventually expand to higher cavities (4+4) once the production process was proven out.

The next decision was whether to mold the materials separately and assemble them or to overmold them. Roembke and Engel worked together in developing the 2-shot molding cell and LSR tooling prototypes. Testing these prototypes consisted of seven injection molding presses ranging from 35 tons to 200 tons.

Engel addressed the first stage of automation in the prototyping by enlisting Pro Systems (Churubusco, Indiana), to integrate the turnkey automation into the machine. Due to operating height restrictions, a 6-axis robot was used for the final assembly, completing six processes outside of the molding area. This process also included placing a water-soluble pouch containing pre-measured amounts of growth media that support the enrichment of any target bacteria present in the sample for each water test cartridge.

A series of pre-production testing,We can supply howo truck products as below. prototype tools were modified for the plastic vial and LSR component to complete the 2-shot mold/press process. One press was used to mold the plastic vials, which then moved to the second press to apply the LSR tool. The primary machine used was Engel’s Victory 200H/80L/160 Combi. This 160-ton single cavity machine with wide platens equipped with two injection units was used to run the two separate materials. The primary (200H) was for thermoplastics and the secondary (80L) was for LSR.

Ultimately, the Roembke mold was a single drop cold deck with a standard LSR valve gate design featuring side injection versus back injection for the plastic. We offer the largest range of porcelain tiles online. The final Engel machine was a standard 2-component machine that incorporated the smallest diameter screw possible (12 mm) on the injection unit. The wide platen machine leveraged a special ejector pattern for the tool design centered behind each application for the thermoplastic and LSR. Servo valves were used on both ejection units with valve controls used for optimal speeds and pressures.

Thank you, Steve, and good morning to everybody and let me wish everyone on the call a happy New Year as well. And perhaps you could now turn to Page 3. Prior to giving you an overview of our results by market, I'd like to give you a quick high-level summary of the key points that resulted from this quarter. As you now know, we reported record revenues for the quarter, and we were pleased to see such strong growth in an uncertain operating environment. Our record revenues were driven primarily by new product launches. In recent years, the economic cycle has overwritten the normal seasonal pattern that we see for orders. However, this year, we did see a normal seasonal slowdown in orders, particularly in the consumer and mobile sectors. The bookings pattern, frankly, continues to be very volatile on a day-to-day basis, and it's very difficult to predict the overriding trend in the market. We still believe that there are growth opportunities as we move into calendar year '13 and during the last quarter, we completed a number of investments that we think will help our future growth. As I said in the release, we are,New Ground-Based indoor positioning Tech Is Accurate Down To Just A Few Inches. however, waiting until the post-Chinese New Year period before, we believe, we can get a stronger fix on how calendar year '13 will turn out.

The investments we have made in the last quarter include completing our Affinity Medical acquisition, which is doing very well and reported record results in its first couple of months, and CapEx for our new plants in the Philippines and a new facility in Korea, clearly a high-growth market. In addition, we continue to invest in R&D, particularly in high-speed, high power and microminiature products.

During the quarter, we completed the due diligence on a couple of acquisitions that we decided not to move forward with at this time. As we've stated in prior calls, our acquisition focus will continue to be on the industrial, medical and value-added areas. Despite a challenging environment, our organization continues to operate extremely well. For the quarter, we reported record on-time delivery performance and record quality metrics. We believe that these outstanding levels of customer service will continue to help us win business and key customers.

The Opera Goes to College

In the East Gallery, explore the new mixed-media paintings by Christopher McEvoy in Transformer. McEvoy, an assistant professor of art at SUNY Oswego, is an artist who challenges us to see and think about what is not clearly defined as he creates through his paintings a visual dialogue between the intangible and corporeal, entropy and unity, destruction and rejuvenation.

Neither fully abstract nor representative, his art and the act of painting document the struggle between our interior and exterior worlds, between the visceral and personal as related to physical existence. McEvoy received his master of arts in painting from Brandeis University and his master of fine arts in painting from Boston University.

He was awarded a Starr Scholar Fellowship to the Royal Academy of Art in London, and has completed residencies at Vermont Studio Center and the Ragdale Foundation. He has shown his work throughout New York, as well as Boston and London.

In the Arts Café Gallery, Henry J. Drexler’s acrylic paintings in Rural Transformations examine the Central New York landscape. For more than 31 years in his studio near the dairy farm where he was raised in Norwich, Drexler has been capturing the beauty and detail of rural life in Central New York’s Chenango River Valley, the Adirondacks, Bucks County, Pa., and Middlebury, Vt.

Our first, jet-lagged night is spent around a large dining table in the apartment of British expat Leon Lightman, who runs the Argentine Experience.

It's a free-wheeling cooking class-turned-introduction to some of Argentina's regional specialties: empanadas, chimichurri (a spicy sauce for meat), thickly cut steaks flamed to perfection, malbec and the sickly sweet dulce de leche (served with pancakes in this case) that's akin to caramelised brown sugar.

It's like a cracker dinner party, with a crash course in local food and culture thrown in. (Leon has since upgraded and moved his operation into a warehouse, so if planning a visit expect a different vibe.Load the precious minerals into your mining truck and be careful not to drive too fast with your heavy foot.)

We later meet an enterprising young Australian named Anne Reynolds, who, with a local business partner,The stone mosaic series is a grand collection of coordinating Travertine mosaics and listellos. has started up a concept called Fuudis. These women know their food and take newbies direct to the best spots.

We lunch at a packed Italian bistro called Il Matterello in what feels like the industrial backblocks of La Boca, the home turf of Argentina's legendary Boca Juniors football team. The stadium is just around the corner.

Another night we hop restaurants in the trendy neighbourhood of Palermo Hollywood in one of the excursions tailored for those who want a smattering of everything: tapas at a well-known local haunt, Guido; entrees at a flash new pasta place called Olivetti; main course at the ultra-cool Mendoza at Leopoldo; winding up at the Jauja gelato shop, with its staggering array of flavours.

Reynolds also introduces us to Puratierra, the infinitely memorable restaurant of Martin Molteni. This young chef has picked up a swag of accolades and is clearly passionate about his food, his country and creating the kind of welcoming environment that makes you want to come back instantly for more.

The guides for much of our stay are Luciano and Francisco from Cultura Cercana, who speak perfect English (one is a former lawyer, the other a sociologist) and infuse their commentary with a wonderfully wry sense of humour. In the very beginning of the day, the volunteers had been ushered into the auditorium where several speakers came to give thanks and motivated those in attendance. Juilette Popiel, a 7th grader and member of the student council, spoke of the enthusiasm that Phillip DeLuca, principal of Samuel Gompers, had about the event.

Originally an orange grove, the neighborhood is characterized by 1950s ranch-style and adobe houses on irrigated lots — a lush look that distinguishes it from most other nearby residential areas, the listing agent said. Grocery stores are within a half-mile; there are also two malls within a 10-minute drive, including Scottsdale Fashion Square, the largest in Arizona. Nicki Minaj Plus a Gay Bear Equals Chicago's The Big Dipper

There is a Big Dipper Sound, as ascribed by the artist himself in the pornographically droll and ebola infectious song "Drip Drop." In an Andersonville walk up on Chicago's North Side, one can see it being polished; following a cup of coffee from a Swedish bakery, the Dipper, né Dan, bounced around eagerly, ricocheting ideas off of producer Dan Foley, of self described queer-electro-fuck music act BAATHAUS. Scheduled for a show in a few days, the duo were busy setting the set list and adjusting the live tracks, providing an intimate look at the compositions, stripped down to various colored bars, and providing insight into the Big Dipper Sound even as they adjusted it.

The Big Dipper Sound is clubby, for lack of a better term, not full on dance music, per se, but irrevocably along the lines of dance rap. "Danceability is what we aim for," the Dipper said when asked about the floor friendly rhythms that permeate his tracks. "If we can't dance to it, we don't do it."

Bouncing along atop the drums, heavy synths and, in one case, a Backstreet Boys sample, is the single key component to the sound, the Dipper's voice, a voice honed over countless lunch table top-of-the-head freestyles in Evanston with the girth and elasticity of a produce rubber band and the texture of a bag full of marbles, framed, as it should be, in a beard and delivered with a palpable energy from beneath bright eyes, large glasses and a high and semi-tight/rattail combination. The voice is reflected in the Dipper's clothes, as strong, flexible and impractical as his silver chain, and in his motions, namely, the idea that something so large, be it the voice or the Dipper's own sizable frame, can move so nimbly.

The Dipper is just now coming in to finding his voice. After leaving Evanston for the theater program at Ithaca College, he had returned to Chicago and gone to work. "I graduated in 2007 and I came back here and I was pursuing a theater career," he recalled. "I was affiliated with a lot of different companies here. I was working as a choreographer, and a teacher, and a photo assistant. I had some service jobs. And during all of that, I started to really connect with a queer nightlife. Queer parties in Chicago, DJs, music, performance; that sort of thing was really formative and eye opening. I always knew how I identified and what was interesting to me as a spectator, but I was working in a theatrical medium, and you've got a script,Bottle cutters let you turn old glass mosaic and wine bottles into bottle art! and you've got to execute the script. There was no 'just make some shit up that's inside your head and turn it in to a performance,' and that's happening in this very sort of art party, underground, no one's making any money, no one's paying any money. People are just showing what's inside of them."

What was inside the Dipper was a deep, long standing love for hip-hop music that he had come to believe was damned to be unrequited, due first to race, "Kriss Kross were living my dream, but I was like 'I'm white, it's never going to happen.' But then Eminem came out, and I was like 'oh shit, this could legitimately be something I could do'," and then sexual orientation. "A close friend of mine, his older brother had a rap crew … in high school, we would like smoke blunts, and watch them freestyle. Then they would leave, and we would do our own freestyles. But they would throw "faggot" around left, right, and center, and it was always so hard, because it [rap] was something that I wanted. I saw it, and I was like 'I identify with this world. This music makes me happy. I want to be involved. But I won't be accepted.' And so it was really difficult." With his eyes now opened to the realm of creative possibilities and receptive audience he found in the queer nightlife scene, the Dipper began to drift into performance.

He started with an art project-cum-dance troupe called Double DJ. "It was me and two other people," Dipper said. "They were both former drag performers, one a man and one a woman, and we all had very different looks and body types, and we did what I still consider a fascinating bar, club dance performance that fucked with gender representation and movement." Double DJ collaborated with Foley and other DJs to create mixes and set lists, pulling primarily from the hip-hop and dance worlds (their most popular number was to the Peaches remix of Crime Mob's "Stiletto Pumps in the Club"). "It was opening this door of 'this can be whatever we want it to be.' And we would dance pretty much always in big, six inch stiletto platform heels, and for a while, when I started rapping, I was doing them at the same time. People would want us to dance, and then for me to rap. The first few times I did it, I was like 'yes! I'm being double paid for the same night.' But then I started to realize that I was being one performance character and identity, and then I was being another."

Despite leaving the theater behind, the Big Dipper had not allowed himself to grab the microphone.Do you know any howo spare parts wholesale supplier? "Now, what I do when I rap is way more myself. When I was first doing it, it was more like a character. You're going to be a rapper? That's not serious. So I had to be a character. And now, that's really faded away as people have responded personally to what we're doing."

Now that the Big Dipper Sound had found its voice it needed something to say, which brings us to the sound's next key component: The Big Dipper Sound is terribly profane and filthily hilarious, which is not to say that it is a joke. The stone mosaic series is a grand collection of coordinating Travertine mosaics and listellos. The Dipper pulled a Details spread off of Foley's refrigerator and handed it to me.

"I think they think I'm like Weird Al," he laughed. The article places the Dipper in the "great tradition of hip-hop jokesters" with The Fat Boys and Ugly Duckling (respectable enough names, although leaving Heems and Kool AD out of a conversation about rap harlequins seems absurd, even if the jump from jokester to satirist is perhaps too large a one for most to make) and "Andy Samberg's Lonely Island Crew," the last of which seems a particularly lazy and egregious companion. True, the Dipper's bars are stuffed with punchlines and vulgarity, but the disturbing question one wonders when seeing him listed as a "hip-hop jokester" is, if he was rhyming about fucking women, would it still be funny?

The simple fact is that the Big Dipper is saying nothing that countless straight rappers have not said before, and the novelty of hearing it applied,That is a machine for manufacturing plastic products by the injection mould process. with skill, mind you,We have many different types of crys talbeads wholesale. to the male anatomy is something to bemoan, not laud; it is the skill with which he gets vulgar, rather than who he is getting vulgar with, that would be the focus in a perfect world. But while we can take the rubbernecking factor as a negative, or cultural tourism, there is also something inherently positive to be found in the Dipper's explicit bars. As part of a new guard of gay rappers, he has been afforded the ability to rap and be gay, rather than rap about being gay; to devote himself to songs of carnal pleasure, rather than fighting vehemently for his political rights. Basically, the Big Dipper and other like him represent a dramatic sea change in gay hip-hop: By having to say nothing, they are saying everything.

Portraying Life

The Royal Academy claims its new exhibition of the painter Edouard Manet is the largest so far in Britain and the first to be devoted to his portraiture. Can it really be true of an artist whose work is so well known over here, of whom one thought there was nothing to left say beyond glorying in his deep blacks, those wondrous whites and the endless experiments with traditional forms put to new work in contemporary life?

The answer is that there is always something fresh to be learnt about this most sociable and elusive of artists, friend of most of the novelists and critics of his day, revered as a radical father figure by younger artists and respected as a regular contributor to the salons of the establishment. Portraiture, which he pursued in oil and later in pastel throughout his relatively brief career of some two decades (he died aged 51 in 1883), is as good a way as any of exploring his varied works.

Not that you go to Manet for penetrating portraiture. Although he used models as well as friends and insisted on painting only from prolonged and frequent sittings, it wasn't to explore the character or dig deep into the psyche of his subjects. It was to comment on their place through their appearance. All Manet's works were an assault. All, except for the flower paintings so derided by modern curators, were efforts to catch something of the contemporary world about him. Each time he took brush to canvas, as his friend the poet Mallarmé recorded, "he plunges headlong into it, "explaining that "the eye should forget all else it has seen, and learn anew from the lesson before it.The stone mosaic series is a grand collection of coordinating Travertine mosaics and listellos."

Very few of his extensive number of portraits were commissioned. Manet, the son of wealthy parents and a notable figure among artistic circles from early on, didn't need to earn his crust this way. Instead he painted his family, particularly his wife, the Dutch-born Suzanne Leenhoff, and her illegitimate son, Léon, friends from among his wide circle of cultural contacts, professional models and,Buy today and get your delivery for £25 on a range of ceramic tile for your home. especially in his later years, pretty young women of his acquaintance. Some works he sold but many he kept back, half finished or roughly sketched.

What was it that he was seeking from these pictures? The simplest answer is "realism", the observation of what was new and contemporary, which his mentor, the poet and critic Charles Baudelaire, proclaimed as the true test of modern art. Realism meant not just painting accurately from life, but stripping art of all the connotations of moral lesson and monumentality as in traditional art. The new hero was the man about town, the observer, the dandy.

But realism in portraiture for Manet – as Baudelaire, who didn't regard his friend as the best exponent of his philosophy, judged – was never a matter of recording the face and figure with verisimilitude. "I cannot do anything without the model," declared Manet. "I do not know how to invent… If I amount to anything today, I put it down to precise interpretation and faithful analysis." But it was the "interpretation" and "analysis" that made him so different.

With the men it was to convey what they meant for the world about them. His pictures are as much a comment as a rendering of the man. Portrait of Zacharie Astruc, the writer and critic who had done much to support him in his early years, is divided into two parts. On the right Astruc sits somewhat pompously with his hand thrust into his jacket, while to the left is seen his wife in the kitchen, along with the symbols of the domestic life which underpins him.

The portrait of Emile Zola, another great supporter,We have many different types of crys talbeads wholesale. arranges the novelist with the attributes of his art criticism, an open book on Spanish art in his hand, a Japanese print and a print of the Olympia nude above his desk. It is a worthy portrait painted in gratitude for the support Manet received when he needed it, but it suggests also a comment on the over-intellectualisation of art criticism. The pictures of the statesman Georges Clemenceau and the journalist and politician, his childhood friend Antonin Proust (no relation to Marcel Proust) have determination and strength but also a self-conscious posing which subverts their importance.

As the pictures get bigger, indeed, it is hard not to think that Manet isn't deliberately overblowing them to the point of absurdity. The life-size Portrait of Carolus-Duran of 1876, Portrait of M Brun from 1879 and the Portrait of M Arnaud ("The rider") from around 1873-4 all have a quality of self-regard about them which is at variance with the monumentality of the form. That they remain unfinished may indicate that Manet didn't think they were working, or it may be that the subversion of form was all he wanted to convey.

With women it is quite different. Manet was clearly entranced by them, soaking up their vivacity, admiring their poise and revelling in a pretty face. It doesn't appear to have been predatory. Indeed the most touching pictures in the exhibition remain those of his wife, whom he painted more often and for longer than any other sitter; she is depicted at the piano, stroking the cat, resting in the conservatory. The plump and humorous face is always done with fondness, the background painted with quick, fleeting brushstrokes that envelop the sitter in the flowers around her or the dress she is wearing.

Dress is always important to Manet, as are flowers (why can't we have a proper exhibition of Manet and flowers? It would tell so much about him). He liked to dress up his models in the highest fashion and painted their frocks with relish. The portraits of his fellow artist and sister-in-law, Berthe Morisot, of which the Royal Academy has three, are just stunning projections of black: the black of her unblinking eyes and the black modish dress and hat in Berthe Morisot with a Bouquet of Violets (there are the flowers again) from 1872 and black of her attire in Berthe Morisot in Mourning after the death of her father in 1874. But then look at the white of the dress of his only pupil, Eva Gonzales, in a deliberately gauche picture of her at her easel, or the red and blue of the Portrait of Emilie Ambre as Carmen, the tailored black again of the riding costume in The Amazon or the muted and pastel colours of the fashionable dresses of the models that he used for his series of the seasons commissioned by Antonin Proust.

For Manet,We open source indoor tracking system that was developed with the goal of providing at least room-level accuracy. dress was an assertion of modernity, a way of depicting the modern bourgeois woman who was emerging from the constraints of aristocratic past. But going round these galleries it is difficult not to believe that he thought women the better, or at least the more life-enhancing, of the species. It is noticeable that in almost all the portraits of couples or couples with child – in The Game of Croquet, the rather touching portrait of The Monet Family in Their Garden at Argenteuil and In the Garden of 1870 – it is the women who take the foremost role. It's more than their attractions and the dress, it's that Manet, I think, looks on them as the future more than the men lounging in the background.

Two ambiguous pictures give some idea of the thoughts of this reserved man. One is The Luncheon of 1868, in which the 16-year-old Léon Leenhoff stares fixedly out, an anxious woman and unconcerned old man, presumably his parents, behind him. To his side are antique weapons and helmet, symbols surely of a male future of war which should by now be redundant (Manet was to learn better when caught up in the Siege of Paris two years later). The other picture is even more stark but puzzling. In The Railway of 1872, a mother stares up at us from her book while her child, her back to us, peers through the railings down on the rail tracks. The barred composition is of confinement for them both. The question is whether the trains of the modern world or the books will take them out of it.

As Manet's health declined, he resorted more and more, like Degas, to pastel as the quickest and easiest way to express himself on canvas. The portraits became fresher and more personable. Many of the critics of the day preferred them to his more conceptualised portraits and carefully arranged groups in oils.Explore online some of the many available selections in floor tiles. You can see their point. Works such as The Animal Painter La Rochenoire from 1882 and Mlle Suzette Lemaire, Full Face from the previous year have an immediacy that is lacking in his earlier works.

In Manet's portraiture, the parts don't add up to a whole. His efforts to start each picture anew don't make for an easy synthesis and the RA's curators struggle to categorise them in themes or to make a coherent argument of their case that Manet was trying to meld in these works portraiture with genre painting. A gathering of these varied and sometimes uneven works can't express all of the man. For that you really do need his bigger set pieces.

This is not a gathering of masterpieces. Nor is it a comprehensive showing of his portraiture, given the paucity of the borrowings from France. But what you have is the outpouring of one of the great geniuses of art who stood each time before his canvas with a subject, thought and thought about what he wanted to say and then worked to express it. Forget the whole, just look at the individual works and feel the mind behind them.
