Soon, your medicine cabinet might be as horribly noisy with alarms

Theyre also seizing the opportunity to use behavioral economics to prompt beneficial habits in patients.In the past, packaging was simply intended to protect the medication (or to provide a handy surface for marketing messages). But technological advances allow new types of active and smart packaging to emerge.
You might be familiar with active packaging, which is intended to keep contents at their best. One example is the silica gel sachet that prevents mold growth by absorbing moisture and keeping your pills dry. Smart packaging, on the other hand, conveys information about the state of the product or provokes an interaction from the patient.
The Boston-based husband and wife team of computational biologist Gautam Goel and designer Kanupriya Goel came up with an idea for smart pharmaceutical packaging as they watched their aging grandparents struggle while looking through their medicine cabinets. With limited dexterity and eye troubles, plus the fact that English was their second language, they had great difficulty finding what they needed in a cabinet jammed with packs labeled in tiny print, the expiration date illegible or impossible to find. The Goels told me they were motivated to find a solution that would not be dependent on language literacy, or a users ability to find the expiration date on a medication bottle. They wanted to develop packaging that could clearly indicate when the contents are out of date.
The Goel's Red Dot Award-winning design, called Self Expiring, works by using two separate layers of information: The top layer contains the standard medical text, and the bottom contains ink that will become visible through the first layer as the expiry date approaches. Its taken a very different path from the Silicon Valley-steeped RelayRides and FlightCar, although theyre all operating in the same space. Its founder, Paul Davis, never thought he would start his own company. When we chatted, he wasnt totally sure about the difference between a seed round and a Series A round, and he didnt see anything unusual in the fact that he didnt take venture capital.
I wanted to take the risk on my own because I dont necessarily want it to not work on someone elses dime, Davis told me on the phone. Ive been bootstrapping till now.

With RelayRides and FlightCar breathing down its neck, Hubber isnt the only park n share option out there, but its gotten a head start by being the first in LA. Davis is glad for the additional competition. He says his biggest business challenge in the future is getting consumers to trust these types of systems, and more startups who run this platform will raise awareness.

It is the airport equivalent of smashing into someone's flat, rifling through their drawers and stealing papers and documents. It is simple harassment and intimidation.
Greenwald himself is not known to have committed any offence, unless journalism is now a "terrorist" occupation in the eyes of British and American politicians. Stratford man admits wrapping dog in packing tape
The case of the dog found bound in packing tape has been solved. The
culprit in the case was the dogs owner, Stratford police say.
Officer Eric Colby started investigating the case after a resident reported seeing a photo on Facebook of a Stratford dog bound in blue tape.The dogs owner, a 45-year-old Stratford man, initially told Colby that he didnt report it because he knew who did it and was going to settle the matter himself.
The man told Colby he let his dog, named Paco, out into his fenced back yard the night of July 27 and someone took the dog. He said he had searched his south-side neighborhood until 11 p.m. that night and found Paco the next morning in the backyard bound in tape.
Something wasnt right, Police Chief Korey Schillinger said as Colbys investigation ruled out the possible suspect the man had named.During an interview with Colby on Friday, the man admitted he taped his dog, Schillinger said. The man said he didnt tape Paco tightly, and he blamed his actions on personal issues, Schillinger said.
Police are seeking charges of obstructing an officer and cruelty to an animal, Schillinger said. Paco is being placed with one of the mans friends, Schillinger said.
Schillinger and Colby met with the suspect Monday night to confirm the animal would be placed in a new home.I looked him in the eye and told him to tell me why he did this, and he blamed it on personal issues. He said hes going to get help, said Schillinger, who said he knows the suspect. Thats one of the things about living in a small town. We know everyone.
