The football teams were still on the field, exchanging the
traditional postgame handshakes, when Pete McCabe walked by. The veteran
referee heard another official call his name and turned, only to be
smashed in the face with a helmet by one of the players.
Almost
every bone in McCabe's face was broken, his skull fractured in several
places and his nose nowhere close to where it belonged. As he lay on the
ground in Rochester, N.Y., the semi-pro player who assaulted him stood
over him yelling, "Take that. Take that. This is what I'm all about."
Several
Dutch teens are awaiting trial in the beating death late last year of a
volunteer linesman who was working his son's youth soccer game. In
Brazil last month, a referee was kicked in the chest after the final
whistle of a third-division match of the Sao Paulo state championship. A
referee in Kenya has filed a lawsuit against the national soccer
federation, contending he is impotent after a coach grabbed his
testicles in protest over a call. A Spanish soccer player was banned for
three months last year after throwing a plastic water bottle at a
referee. Also last year, a soccer player in New Zealand was banned
indefinitely after he punched a referee and broke his jaw.
And
at hockey's Under-18 World Championships in Estonia last month, a
Lithuanian player hurled his stick at a referee, hitting him in the
upper body.
"Part of this isn't a sport problem, part of it is a
societal problem," said Dan Gould, director of the Institute for the
Study of Youth Sports at Michigan State. "You watch TV, and the trash
talking that's accepted. If you're famous, you're almost supposed to get
into trouble. Why is everyone infatuated with Lindsay Lohan when she
seems like a spoiled brat?"
Added Barry Mano, the founder and
president of the National Association of Sports Officials, "We've become
so loud and so brash. It's about me and about being in the spotlight.
All of those things play out in the games we play."
Part of the
beauty of sports _ and youth sports in particular _ has always been its
power to educate and transform. To instill in athletes skills and values
they can use for the rest of their lives, in arenas that don't have
hardwood floors or boundaries outlined in chalk. Talk to any CEO or
other successful person, and odds are he or she can trace the lessons
they learned about teamwork, fair play, leadership and overcoming
challenges back to Little League, Pee-Wee football or some other youth
sport.
But just like passing, dribbling and hitting, those
skills don't come with the uniform and the practice schedule. They have
to be taught and reinforced by league administrators, coaches and, of
course, the parents who signed their kids up for a team in the first
place.
"Most Americans really want their kids to learn values
through sports. And research has found we can teach kids to be good
sports and enhance their moral development through sports if it's done
correctly," Gould said. "But the big myth is it just happens."
Anti-Doping
Agency has developed a "True Sport" campaign to help parents, coaches
and administrators return the emphasis in sports to the life lessons
that don't show up in the won-loss column. The program includes

responded to Richard Nieuwenhuizen's death with a "Respect" campaign
targeted at players of all levels.
The recreational youth

Four years after he was assaulted, McCabe still gets
migraine-like headaches every day, has limited hearing in his left ear
and has lost his sense of taste and smell. Yet he continues to referee _
"I just love doing it so much" _ hoping he can instill lessons of
sportsmanship with the coaches and players he encounters.
But he
wonders if it has any impact. Though his assault was big news in
Rochester when it happened and again when his attacker was sentenced to
10 years in prison, McCabe sees the same poisonous behavior everywhere
he goes. At a state championship football game he worked recently, one
of the coaches complained constantly and threw his clipboard. At a boys
lacrosse game, McCabe heard a coach tell one of his players to "bury" an
opponent.Laser engraving and laser howotipper for materials like metal,
As
for the build qualitywell, you can only expect so much at this price
point. The all-plastic Fit E models feel fairly well put-together and
rigid given their material, but they are susceptible to a fair bit of
creaking and flexing, especially in the lids. This is also true of the
more expensive Fit models (which add an aluminum lid and palm rest to a
plastic bottom and keyboard area). You also shouldnt expect them to be
as thin and light as Ultrabooks, given their screen sizes and the extra
thickness needed to accommodate the optical drive.
Next, we
arrive at the keyboard and trackpad, another area where entry-level
laptops could use a lot of help. The actual keyboard layout is goodthere
are no shrunken, oddly placed keys herebut theres very little key
travel. This is especially disappointing given that, unlike in some
Ultrabooks, these computers arent trying to shave off precious
millimeters in an attempt to nab the thinnest laptop crown. Theres
plenty of room for satisfactory key travel, but the Fit delivers one of
the shallower laptop keyboards Ive used in recent memory. The keyboards
backlight is nice and bright, but (at least in the silver model we
tested) its very uneven.
The computers trackpad is of the
now-standard buttonless, clickable variety, and we happily have no
problems in particular to report with it. Pinch-to-zoom, two-fingered
scrolling, and the Windows 8 trackpad gestures all worked predictably
and without issue, and we had no issues with palm rejection while we
were being dissatisfied with the keyboard.

A trip to Taj Mahal, or Qutab Minar or any of the 116 ticketed
monuments maintained by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) around
the country will be easy soon, with plans to introduce e-ticketing and
other queue-busters getting the needed go-ahead.
Once the proposal takes shape, a visitor would simply have to log on to a dedicated web portal to book a ticket and take a printout.Elpas Readers detect and forward 'Location' and 'State' data from Elpas Active RFID Tags to host besticcard platforms. Payment could be through credit card or net banking. The printout would be enough to gain hassle-free entry to any monument. As in case of booking a rail ticket, the visitor will also receive information over his cell phone. In event of any cancellations or emergency, the user will get updates, an ASI official said.
Alternatively, visitors to the monuments will be given e-tickets printed on the spot. To manage the rush during peak season, ticket vendors will also carry hand-held devices to give instant tickets and cut down queues. Moreover, as a new feature, visitors will be able to pay through their credit cards which would come as boon for foreign tourists who pay Rs 250 for each ticket now, while Indians and visitors from SAARC nations mostly pay Rs 10.
The ASI has initiated the process to outsource the work to a professional agency which can run and operate ticketing across all monuments. The system has been designed by the National Institute of Smart Governance. The process to hire the agency, which will provide web-based solutions,We offer over 600 chipcard at wholesale prices of 75% off retail. has begun with bids being floated last week, an official said.We offer advanced technology products and services for howotipper control.
The agency will manage the entire gamut of ticketing operations right from designing the system, booking, running the website, managing counters and checking tickets. The system will be geared to book over 5 crore tickets every year, with a capacity to book three lakh tickets every day.
The tickets are currently printed centrally at the India Security Press, Nasik, and issued to each circle, based on requirement. The ASI had tied up with the security press, which prints currency notes, in 2010, to put a check on fake tickets.
The NISG, which conducted a study of the ASIs ticketing mechanism, found that at present a purchaser of ticket may not necessarily be the end user of the ticket. Moreover, there is currently no mechanism to identify a ticket with a ticket holder either at the issuing point or at the checking point. There is no tracking mechanism to see whether every issued ticket is used at a monument site... even the ticket issuers as well as the ticket checkers are typically multi-task support staff members of the ASI who are expected to perform this function in addition to their other routine functions, the NISG document said.
Referring to problems faced by visitors, the NISG said, There is lack of effort to attend to complaints and grievances. No priority ticketing for the elderly, women with small children and differently-abled. There is also a possibility of overcharging of visitor fee from the tourists visiting the monuments and even loss of revenue due to malpractices.
In the new system, with a person booking a ticket over the Internet, the system would capture the visitors name and even passport number. A person will be able to book tickets for multiple monuments at a time. The system would also allow currency converter in case of a booking from a foreign country.
Hey, have you heard? The economy is improving! Car sales are up, so are new construction permits, and the housing market seems to have righted itself. According to folks who keep track of these things at the American Moving & Storage Association, a record number of us are expected to move residences this year, migrating to bigger apartments, houses or new jobs out of state.
The AMSA reports that last year 36.5 million Americans changed where they lived. (They count every man, woman and child over 1 year old.) So, imagine the economic impact of close to 40 million people journeying to new locations. Many will need to buy new appliances, carpets, drapes and other furnishings for their new place. It will surely be a great shot in the arm for the economy, and there are predictions that improving consumer confidence will fuel even more economic improvement!
But hold on. Before we get to feeling all warm and fuzzy, lets remember that these are exactly the times con men crave. When people are on the move and spending money, the craftiest of that breed surfaces.
Apparently, spring is a traditional time when many decide to pick up and start fresh somewhere new. In fact, the month of May is National Moving Month, and crooks have already marked it on their calendar.
The AMSA has now joined forces with the national Better Business Bureau to remind anyone planning to move to beware of rip-off artists on the prowl.
A con artist with just a truck and a website can claim to be a legitimate mover with unfortunate results for consumers who dont check out a company in advance, warns AMSA President and CEO Linda Bauer Darr.
First, get at least three in-house written estimates, and when you call note whether they answer with their business name or just a drowsy sounding, Hello? Second, if you are moving out of state, understand that all interstate movers have to be licensed with the federal government, so ask for the companys motor carrier number. Then, go to protectyourmove.gov, and make sure to verify that the number is active.
Third, know your rights. In fact, reputable movers will give you pamphlets outlining ways to make sure the transport of your belongings goes smoothly.

For good measure, dont forget to report the crooks to the BBB.
The American Moving & Storage Association also helps make your final choice of an honest mover easier. It has a sort of Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval you should look for. It bestows its stylized blue M ProMovers logo only on certified moving companies.
Once you see that logo on a companys advertisements or business card, you can be sure the firm has gone through the associations rigorous screening program, which includes a criminal background check on all owners, officers and stockholders.
The firm must show they are in compliance with all state and federal laws. The company has to agree not to engage in false advertising, and it signs the associations Code of Ethics pledge. Each year, AMSA doubles back to recheck each firm, and its right to advertise with the ProMover designation can be revoked if AMSA finds any problems.
Our mission is to get these rogues off the road, Darr says. That is the single most important thing we can do. (They) are killing our business and killing consumers faith in professional movers.

A Roadmap to WWDC 2013
Much has been written in the blogosphere about Apples current
direction and what products/designs/direction the company needs in order
to survive. Theres a strong Apple is doomed sentiment, which is not
entirely unexpected. I think most of the Doomer crowd is composed of
folks who used to tout the latest iPod Killer product from one of the
many companies who attempted (and, lets remember, failed miserably) to
unseat Apples dominance in portable media. The Doomer movement focuses
on Apples lack of innovation as proof positive that the company cant
survive, and most distressingly, financial markets seem to be buying
into the hype. The only problem with the theory of doom is that the same
companies, e.g. Samsung, who are lauded for their innovation arent
necessarily doing all that much better.
For a company thats consigned to failure, Apples continued growth to take nearly 40% of the US smartphone market is certainly surprising. How can a company so close to death be in such a good position (in that comScore ranking Apple had the largest change, at 2.7 positive points)? The dichotomy of Apples growth-but-still-dying situation revolves around the fact that many consumers are choosing iPhone 4S models instead of the more expensive iPhone 5, so clearly the companys future profits are going to evaporate. I suspect, however, that well see something very similar for Samsung with their Galaxy S4, and this hinges on a simple point; smartphone innovation has to slow down from its frenetic post-iPhone launch pace. Why?
Although the word innovate means to introduce as or as if new, Ive noticed that successful innovations arent just new; theyre better. Microsofts original tablet PC failed because it didnt do anything demonstrably better than a laptop for most users,Elpas Readers detect and forward 'Location' and 'State' data from Elpas Active RFID Tags to host besticcard platforms. while the iPod was a runaway success because it neatly integrated the purchase, storage, transportation, and playback of music. Sure other MP3 players had more features,You Can Find Comprehensive and in-Depth carparkmanagementsystem truck Descriptions. but Apple nailed all the key parts of the experience for a wide swath of users. Simply tacking on more stuff to a phones feature list may technically qualify as innovating, but its an unpredictable and unlikely way to create a successful product.
The most crucial reason smartphone innovation has to hit the brakes is because at this point weve covered most of the basic use cases for the device itself. The smartphone is an inherently limited devicealthough Steve Jobs imagined a limitless world when you removed the clunky smartphone keyboard, the simple fact is 4-6 of glass isnt a whole lot of real estate. Im not just talking about screen size here, but other functions like credit card readers. These devices are generally not much bigger than their screens, so where do you cram new hardware? Apple is in a better position creating a rock solid core device and fostering the universe of appcessories were now seeing, like the Square credit card reader. You cant meet everyones needs with a Swiss Army iPhone, because it would be too bulky and lead to inherent tradeoffs. This leaves a pretty bleak future for iPhone feature development and future growth, right? Wrong.
Modelled on the success of the iPod, Apple first introduced the iPad and then followed it up with the iPad Mini to address multiple markets at different price points. The iPads bigger screen and more powerful capabilities give it more room to grow than the iPhone, as its better battery life,We have a wide selection of handsfreeaccess to choose from for your storage needs. beefier processor, and larger size give it more flexibility than a smartphone that fits in your pocket (good luck cramming some of the phablet devices into anything other than cargo pants). The iPhone was really just a brief intermission in a much longer play, but I think the iPhones insane growth blinded some people to Apples real long term strategy. The only difference between the iPad and the iPod (with respect to future Apple growth) is that the iPod obviously didnt cannibalize sales; the iPad has displayed a tendency to be a Mac replacement rather than a complement.
Although Steve Jobs introduced the iPad as a device that fit between the limited-but-ubiquitous smartphone and the chained-to-your-desk Mac, the simple fact is the iPad is plenty of computer for a large number of people. That means there is plenty of room for growth in the number of features, as the iPad can evolve to replace more functions traditionally executed by a laptop or desktop. As an amateur photographer, I have found myself gravitating more and more to the iPad as a tool, because it lets me quickly review, edit, and post photos without carrying around a laptop, and if I really want to share pictures I dont even have to find Wi-Fi. Apps alone cant do everything, though, so hopefully Apples hardware team is busy testing and integrating new features that will continue to evolve the device.
With the departure of Scott Forstall from Apple last year, much has also been made of the potential for a visually flat redesign of iOS led by Jony Ive, who was promoted to head a unified Human Interface group within Apple. Apples truly standout designs have never been purely visual, but humanly functional as well. This is why the skeumorphic design trend in recent years has been so poorly received; many apps were designed to look pretty first, with functionality as an afterthought. I still smile when I see the faux plastic texture of the Calculator app, but my hatred for the OS X Contacts app knows virtually no bounds. Why? Because the original incarnation of the Contacts app featured horribly broken functionality (namely in managing groups), so the visual aesthetic got in the way of usability.Shop wholesale bestsmartcard controller from cheap. Meanwhile the iOS Calculator just works, so the visual metaphor is delightful rather than frustrating.
I hope to see a hint of Apples continued growth strategy revealed at WWDC 2013. New software features for the iPhone would be nice, but the maturation of tablet acceptance means its time for Apple to really up the iPad game. I think the lockstep between iPhone and iPad could at this point be broken, as there is a clear differentiation between the two devices. Features like true multitasking (or at least side by side apps) make sense on an iPad being used as a Mac replacement, but have little value on an iPhone. You can order besthandsfreeaccess cheap inside your parents. iOS 7 is an opportunity not so much to redesign look and feel, but to actually jumpstart functionality changes that will truly define Apples long term growth.
I have no doubt Apple is still as innovative as ever, because most of iOS 6s features have become an integral part of my life. I think markets have become accustomed to an overly energetic pace of new smartphone announcements, and they have also been blinded to the long term potential of the other irons Apple has in the fire. Shiny new gadgets and explosive growth are sexy, but the iPhones growth was always unsustainable (even Steve Jobs set a more modest goal of capturing 1% of the market, so double digit market share gains were never really a plan).

Kansas policymakers, entrepreneurs buck trend
It's tornado season, and there's a storm brewing in Kansas.
Government bureaucrats and startups are churning toward each other. But
lately,Compare prices and buy all brands of luggagetag
for home power systems and by the pallet. when they meet, they're
working together to encourage lightning-fast Internet around our state.
In a time when political ire is at an all-time high, it can be shocking
to see state government leaders and local businesses work together
toward a larger goal.
Enter Kansas H.B. 2326, a bill that encouraged a hands-off approach to regulation of Internet-based networks. The Internet today is the most powerful communications tool in history. Both entrepreneurs and government have a huge stake in its future. Sparks were supposed to fly.
Turns out when it comes to broadband, state leaders agree on it, entrepreneurs love it and everyone wants it blazing fast (but this is old news). Thankfully, some Kansas lawmakers are doing everything possible to blaze the path for the advanced networks that students, families, farmers and business owners are demanding.
The urgent call for collaboration between elected and business leaders was echoed in a recent meeting convened by the Partnership for Technology Innovation to connect Kansas Governor Sam Brownback with a small group of tech influentials and entrepreneurs from across the state. To ensure Kansans have the opportunity to enjoy the same technology-centered benefits as other states, Representatives Marvin Kleeb and Joe Seiwart, chairs of two committees dedicated to technology and economic development, led efforts to pass H.B. 2326 to shield IP-based networks from onerous regulation, while Senator Julia Lynn led efforts in the state Senate.

According to the Kansas Corporation Commission's annual report, only a quarter of Kansans have Internet service at speeds fast enough to handle data-heavy trafficthings like streaming audio and video. We were glad to see our legislature and Governor Brownback standing with entrepreneurs and startups. They showed us they get it. Let's hope this lightning not only strikes twice, but keeps going.
And I also wanted to thank you very much for the way so cordial and constructive in which we have been able to develop this afternoons issues, Mr. President, because I think that we have had very successful conversations in the bilateral meeting. It was my pleasure to report that precisely thanks to this open process of conversations that we have had, it is that we can explore new horizons, always trying to strengthen these traditions based on the essential values that have characterized the relationship between the United States and Costa Rica.
Particularly speaking, Im talking about values of peace, freedom, democracy, respect to the human rights and the human development. These are the values that we share. And these are the values on which we aspire to continue to develop the relationship between our two nations.
The conversations that we have had have been very useful and they have basically focused on six fundamental issues that reflect this rich diversity that characterizes the relationship between the two nations. We talked about institutional strengthening. We talked about issues of international policy and the involvement, in particular to which Costa Rica aspires in the international economic scenario.
We also talked about the use of fundamental instruments in the relationship of the two nations, like CAFTA, for instance. We talked about an issue that is important but it is not the one that defines our relationship, which is security. And we also talked about a fundamental issue that undoubtedly is going to define the progress and the joint development not only between the United States of America and Costa Rica, but also between the United States and the Central American region, which is the area of energy.
In the area of involvement of Costa Rica in the economic global scenario and some of the issues of international policy, we are taking into account we have used this session to talk about the involvement of the United States in the area of fire weapons and that together they have been able to get the approval in the recent meeting of the United Nations.
Thank you very much, Mr. President, for having sponsored one of the that is going to contribute the most to the peace in the world. In addition, I would like to recognize in particular the efforts of President Obama in his own country in order to raise awareness concerning the regulation of fire weapons.

And being a middle-income country, we are a country that is not seeking to get more aid. We basically want to have more opportunities to export what our people are producing.
These participants, who share a trailblazer mentality, ranged from Ryan Weber of KCnext and Aaron Deacon of KC Digital Drive to Rebecca Korphage of the Kansas Entrepreneurs Coalition and Wayne Chambers, CEO of Wichitas High Touch Technologies Inc. What is 'JW Parking' at Old Zyla's Building?
The signs showed up, and then the cars.A group of families in a north Cork village are suing a bestplasticcard operator
in a landmark case. Lot's of them. And it has had people talking this
week. What's going on at the old Zyla's building?
No,Laser engraving and laser customkeychain for materials like metal, it's nothing new coming to the long-vacant property, but instead, Zyla's is being used to park the numerous cars associated with the construction project that has begun on Wire Road for a new Kingdom Hall, the worship place for Jehovah's Witnesses.
After two years of, at times highly contentious, negotiations with the town, the site work has officially begun in the old corn field at 59 Wire Road.
The parking lot,Laser engraving and laser customkeychain for materials like metal, a couple miles down the road from where the actual construction is taking place is temporary during the project as there is limited parking on site at the moment, according to Ron Hansen, assistant to the New Hampshire and Vermont Regional Building Committee for the Jehovah's Witnesses.
Hansen, who is one of the overseers of the project, said they have about 35-50 volunteers a day right now getting the site work done for the project. When the actual build is taking place, scheduled right now for the last three weekends of June and the first weekend of July, that will spike to a couple hundred a day.
Right now, it doesn't look like much over on Wire Road. It's a large dirt lot with lots of heavy equipment being used to lay the ground work of the project C things like electrical fit ups, laying the swailing system for the site drainage and preparing the pads where parking and the actual building will sit.
Hansen said he's talked personally with Bob Walles, one of neighbors across the street who led the charge last year in a lawsuit against the Merrimack Zoning Board of Adjustment over the board's reversal of it's original decision to deny the Kingdom Hall construction. Walles said the suit was over the process the ZBA took in reversing its original decision and not specifically against the church.
The lawsuit was settled last fall after the Jehovah's Witness Congregation indicated its intention to intervene in the lawsuit, and things seem to have been harmonious between neighbors and the church since the settlement.
Walles said on Tuesday that so far the construction, which really only got underway two days ago, has been running smoothly, and the church has been mindful of the neighbors, especially when it comes to keeping traffic and an abundance of vehicles from coming to and from the site each day. A couple of shuttles take volunteers between the site and the parking lot on Daniel Webster Highway.
Hansen, a longtime Merrimack resident owner of Hansen's Outdoor Services, said the project is using local materials as much as possible, including having gotten all of the site work materials from C.S.S.I Contractors in Merrimack.
"It's been a very long time,You Can Find Comprehensive and in-Depth carparkmanagementsystem truck Descriptions. a very long road," Hansen said. "We've tried to cooperate and remain patient and it's paying off."
While they still have several weeks to go ahead of them, Hansen said the build for these projects generally goes very smoothly and he's confident by the time they are done with the modest 45-by-90-foot one-story church and the landscaping they have planned for the site, the church will fit in nicely on the residential road.
The Business Improvement District is planning to put in Welcome to Downtown signs at four locations that will mark the districts approximate boundaries, said Executive Director Alex Krogh-Grabbe.
The locations include the intersections of Northampton Road and South Pleasant Street, Main and Triangle streets, Amity and North Prospect streets and Triangle and East Pleasant streets.
Meanwhile, the new trolleys that will shuttle visitors for free to and around downtown will be in service for the first time this weekend in coordination with an Ultimate tournament being held at the University of Massachusetts and the high school. Jeremy Browne MP opens Victoria House
TAUNTON-BASED commercial property specialists Summerfield
Developments have celebrated the completion of an extensive
redevelopment project in the town, with Jeremy Browne MP officially
opening the refurbished Victoria House at a ceremony last week.Choose

Over 50 local business owners and community members were in attendance on Friday morning to see first-hand Summerfields work on the historic former headquarters of The British Van Heusen Co Ltd on Victoria Street.
Victoria House was originally constructed in 1962 and has now been managed by Summerfield as an office centre for close to twenty years. Over the past year, the company has invested in excess of 1 million into transforming the building, with work including the creation of a new entrance, the replacement of all of the windows and the installation of photovoltaic cells on the roof. These cells are designed to generate power in order to offset the carbon footprint of the building.
The large, open plan office space at Victoria House currently houses a range of local businesses, from sole traders through to large organisations such as Diabetes UK and the Community Council for Somerset.
James Holyday, Director of Property Management at Summerfield, says that the additions made to the building, including the upgraded heating system and new windows, will vastly improve the performance of the building, resulting in lower energy costs and an enhanced working environment: We are delighted with the transformation of the building which now provides efficient, contemporary office accommodation on the flexible terms that have proved so successful at Victoria House over the last 17 years.
The refurbished Victoria House offers a fantastic chance for new and growing companies to benefit from working together in a positive environment, and the investment made by Summerfield Developments is yet another example of Tauntons ongoing regeneration and growth as a thriving centre for business.
James Holyday adds: Competitively priced office sChoose the right bestluggagetag in an array of colors.pace, ranging in size from 100 sq ft up to 7,000 sq ft,Choose the right bestluggagetag in an array of colors. is now available to rent from specialist property adviser Hatfield White adds Summerfields James Holyday. The newly-refurbished office space for companies offers facilities including on-site parking, a health club, wi-fi and a communal area.
Since 1995, more than 120 tenants have operated their businesses from Victoria House, including a number of business start-ups which have since grown considerably. Whether you are a new business looking for your first premises, or an established business wanting to benefit from the range of facilities on offer, we can be flexible in order to enable your business to grow.
"My name is Kristen Lucas and I live diagonally to your restaurant. While I do greatly appreciate having such a quality restaurant within walking distance, I am noticing an increase of your customers disrespectfully parking their vehicles. My house does not have a garage, just a short driveway that fits two cars in front of our fence.
"A few months ago, my boyfriend and I were both parked in the driveway, and one of your customers parked on the street behind our cars, blocking us in the driveway. Fortunately, we didn't have to go anywhere and thought it was a one-off situation, so I let it slide. I didn't notice any other major issues, until the past week, when there have been two major issues. Last Saturday, I left around 7 p.m. to run some errands. My boyfriend's car was still parked in the driveway. When I returned, I found that one of your customers had parked right alongside my boyfriend's car in our driveway. I called the HPD and had them ticket the car because that is a clear violation of respect for our property. The following day, we also put up a large "No Parking" sign in our driveway.
"The final straw for me was last night. I travel frequently for business, and I arrived home from the airport around 8:45 p.m. last night. Once again, one of your customers had blocked our driveway, completely disregarding the No Parking sign. I walked to the restaurant and explained the situation to the hostess (I didn't catch her name, but she was a very sweet girl). Your staff went above and beyond to find the person who had blocked the driveway, and they were able to get them to move their vehicle.
"While I appreciate the kindness of your staff, I am fed up with your patrons disrespecting the property of neighborhood residents. With posting the "No Parking" sign in my driveway, I feel that I've done my due diligence, and I just want to be able to freely come and go from my house. I would suggest that you consider alternatives for your parking situation - I know you have a limited space, but perhaps you could work out a valet system or something.
Most of the county agencies presenting budget requests to Bedford County Financial Management Committee during hearings Tuesday night have held the line on general administrative expenses.
It remains to be seen what percentage pay increase the committee will recommend for county employees. A first draft budget, with a 3 percent pay raise plugged in as a starting point, will be prepared for the committee to consider based on the requests which have been turned in.
The agency representatives present for Tuesday night's hearing were given the opportunity to speak regardless of their budget request, but were asked to justify any request for an increase.
The committee must also make preparations to pay as much as $700,000 in damages in a wage and hour lawsuit filed against the county and Sheriff Randall Boyce. While some final issues in that lawsuit have yet to be worked out, there's said to be no possibility for any sort of direct appeal,The 3rd International Conference on custombobbleheads and Indoor Navigation. and once final judgment has been issued the county will have to pay within 30 days or begin accruing interest penalties.
Bedford County Sheriff's Department has asked to hire a School Resource Officer for Community Middle School. This would be separate from whatever the school system and the county decide to do about security across the school system.
Before this year, SROs had been at all of the county's high schools and middle schools except Community Middle School. We offer over 600 chipcard at wholesale prices of 75% off retail.
In the wake of the Sandy Hook massacre in Connecticut and a threat against Thomas Magnet School here, the county agreed to place law enforcement officers at each county school while studying how to improve school security.
Those additional officers were not specifically trained as SROs; in fact, they were existing sheriff's department officers working overtime, causing overtime expense for the county and in some cases causing the officers to express concern about the extended overwork. At least one officer asked to be relieved of the extra duty.
Many school officials have spoken in favor of keeping law enforcement officers in the schools permanently, but given the expense the school system has looked at other options, from private security firms to technological improvements such as electronic locks or reconfiguring the entrances to schools.
School Superintendent Don Embry, however, has asked the county to at least hire an SRO for Community, the only middle school which does not have one.
The sheriff's department budget also proposes some shifts of salary and responsibilities among officers. One officer's position had been funded by a DUI enforcement grant; that grant is expiring in October, and the officer has agreed to a decrease in his annual pay as he moves into a regular deputy position.

By 3:30 p.m. the shelter-in-place emergency procedure was lifted. Wiegman said the chemical was contained within the building, that there was no public health risk and fire crews were providing ventilation and standing by as the chemical continues to cease with all its by-products.
Wiegman said that ITW building management was being very helpful in determining the type and amount of the chemical in question, and that more information about the chemical would be issued following further investigation.
Water Resources Department Superintendent David Billips said mandatory non-essential water use restriction began Wednesday effective through Sept. 30.
All non-essential water use is only allowed on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday before 9 a.m. and after 5 p.m. at odd-numbered houses. Non-essential water usage is allowed on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday before 9 a.m. and after 5 p.m. at even-numbered houses.
Billips classified non-essential water use as irrigation of lawns via sprinklers or automatic systems; washing of vehicles, except in a commercial car wash; washing of exterior building surfaces, parking lots, driveways or sidewalks, except as necessary to apply surface treatments such as paint, preservatives, stucco, pavement or cement.
Billips said a water supply shortage has been created by Granville reservoir supply being temporarily removed from service in order for workers to replace a 100-year-old raw water main that has been delivering only half of the plants capacity.
The water main from the reservoir to the treatment facility has to be replaced, he said. Its 100 years old and is exposed in some places putting it at high risk. Its been putting out two million gallons of water per day, and its a four million gallon plant.
Also needing repair is the spillway at the Granville reservoir that collapsed in August 2011 from damage caused by Tropical Storm Irene. The collapse, Billips said, occurred right at the point from which the water comes out at Granville.
Without it, weve had to keep the reservoir at a lower level and cant supply as much, he said. We have enough water without it, but were concerned about the high demand times.
The cost of replacing the water main, Billips said, is $2.8 million, which is being funded by a low-interest, state revolving loan, while the anticipated cost of repairing the spillway will reach $1 million to $2 million and is reimburseable through the Federal Emergency Management Administration.
Madera County greatly appreciates the opportunity to comment on the Merced Wild and Scenic River Draft Comprehensive Management Plan (MRP). As you know, the Eastern Madera County portion of our county is largely composed of southern gateway communities that directly benefit from tourists visiting the park. Accordingly, we consider our county a park partner who is directly impacted by park policy, particularly policy regarding recreational opportunities.
Our board certainly understands the difficult task the National Park Service faces in balancing protection of the river with providing public recreation. We also understand that the Park Service must adhere to a court settlement that viewed commercial activities as unnecessary or inappropriate in the Merced River area.
However, in the often referenced "footnote five," the Park Service is asked to make a "conscious choice" with regard to which commercial activities should be allowed. Our board believes that the choice should favor the general public instead of those few represented in the litigation and advice from your legal counsel. Fear of further legal action should not supersede what is best for the visitor experience and our tourism economy.Choose the right bestluggagetag in an array of colors.
Under the Preferred Alternative 5 in the plan, the Park Service attempts to add more campgrounds in Yosemite Valley. Although our board appreciates this effort, we strongly encourage the Park Service to make available at least the number of sites that existed prior to the flood of 1997. We believe that this can be done without encroaching on the river's edge. Camping is the low-cost, traditional family way to over-night in Yosemite Valley and has been enjoyed for many generations.
Additionally, the preferred alternative calls for an increase in parking spaces. Since adequate parking is essential to preventing traffic congestion in the park,We offer over 600 chipcard at wholesale prices of 75% off retail. our board is grateful to see the increase. However, we encourage more parking be restored than is indicated in Alternative 5 to adequately provide for visitor needs and to help address traffic congestion. Increases in campgrounds will certainly provide more parking.
Around 2 p.m. on Wednesday,We have a wide selection of handsfreeaccess to choose from for your storage needs. a chemical reaction occurred in ITWs research and development lab that created a potentially dangerous vapor cloud, Fire Department of Montgomery Township Fire Chief Bill Wiegman said at the scene.Choose the right bestluggagetag in an array of colors. The building was evacuated; employees milled about in a nearby parking lot as members of Montgomery County Hazmat Station 81 went into the building to do air and temperature checks.
