Insult to Injury

After David Hernandez had another rough outing on Saturday night, he was optioned to Reno with the corresponding move to be made this morning. Things were bit surprising when, given the depth (or lack thereof) in the Diamondbacks' bullpen, it became known that Matt Davidson was being called up. Shortly after that news broke, it was announced that a second move from the 25-man roster had been made, with Eric Chavez being placed on the 15-day DL with knee and back soreness.

So the Diamondbacks went into Sunday's rubber game with LHRP Eury De La Rosa in the bullpen, and Matt Davidson on his way. Despite being called up Sunday morning, Davidson was unable to arrive in Phoenix in time to start the afternoon affair.

Zeke Spruill was tabbed to start against the meager New York Mets lineup Unfortunately, the Mets showed far more plate discipline then they were generally known for and managed to make Spruill labour through the first. After getting one out,These partymerchantaccount can, apparently, operate entirely off the grid. a hit and two walk loaded the bases, prompting an early first inning visit to the mound from Kirk Gibson. Spruill then promptly induced a groundball to first, and it looked good. But, as luck would have it for the Diamondbacks, Goldscmidt committed a rare fielding error at first and the bases emptied, leading to three unearned runs. With Mike Baxter standing on second, Anthony Recker hit a line shot down the third base line that Prado had glance off the heel of his glove. This allowed Baxter to score. The shot was credited as a double, but since Baxter was on second as the result of Goldschmidt's flub, the run was still unearned. With Josh Collmenter warming up, Spruill managed to stop the bleeding and send it to the Diamondbacks' half of the first.

The Diamondbacks got off to a good start in their half of the first. A.J. Pollock led off with a single, bringing speed to the base paths. Prado would foul out, and Goldschmidt would give a ball a ride for a long out, and the Diamondbacks would find themselves with two out and Pollock still on first. That would bring up Aaron Hill to try and get something going. Sure enough, Hill crushed a double down the third base line that bounced of the Diamondback bullpen, scoring the speedy Pollock from first. That would bring up the revitalized Cody Ross. With two out and Hill on second, Ross hit a ball hard to deep third, and took off for first. Running down the line, Ross had a misstep and, while trying to recover his balance, had his right leg spasm and slightly hyper-extend. Ross crumpled to the ground and said something which incited Mets first baseman Ike Davis to immediately call for the trainers. Ross would have to be carted off the field on a stretcher. Later it would be revealed that Cody Ross had dislocated his right hip, very bad news indeed for the Diamondbacks. That would bring in Matt Davidson (who only arrived about an hour before game time) to play third, with Prado shifting to left.

The second inning would fly past rather unremarkably, though Tuffy Gosewisch may very well remember it as he got a base hit on his first at-bat at Chase Field.

The Mets tacked on another run in the top of the third on a hit-and-run play with two out and Quintanilla up to bat. While Davis managed to score easily from third, Mike Baxter attempted to score from first on a single to A.J. Pollock and was thrown out at home by five feet to end the inning.

A.J. Pollock continued to do his job as a leadoff hitter in the bottom of the third, slapping a single to center. With Ross already out of the game, one of the last things that the Diamondbacks could afford was the loss of another position player. A bad call on strike three by home plate umpire Laz Diaz nearly resulted in exactly that as Prado had a long, heated conversation with the veteran umpire about his lack of visual acuity. After Kirk Gibson retrieved his irate left fielder Paul Goldschmidt walked and Aaron Hill climbed into the box. On an o-1 count, Hill deposited a thigh high fastball into the left field bleachers closing the gap to 5-4 in favour of New York. Matt Davidson came up next recording his first major league at-bat,A indoorpositioningsystem has real weight in your customer's hand. a high fly ball to center field.

The game was fairly quiet until the bottom of the sixth. Matt Davidson led off the inning with a single to left field for his first major league hit. Parra followed that up with a horrible bunt back to the pitcher, Niese for a fielder's choice. Gosewisch knocked one back to Niese as well, but Quintanilla bobbled the throw from Niese trying to turn the double play and everyone was safe. As a result of the error, Pennington came to the dish with one out and runners at first and second. He promptly struck out looking. It was the fourth strikeout of the game for Niese, all four of them coming looking. Jason Kubel then came up to pinch-hit for Josh Collmenter, only to strike out swinging at a pitch up around his eyes.

Joe Thatcher came on to pitch the seventh and got Daniel Murphy to pop out to Davidson in foul ground. Next was Ike Davis. Thatcher quickly got ahead of the former Sun Devil 0-2 before he lost him and issued a walk, putting Davis on for the eighth consecutive time in the series. A single by Flores would chase Thatcher from the game, at which point Joe Thatcher started giving Laz Diaz a piece of his mind in regards to the strike zone. Will Harris came on in relief and surrendered a three-run home run to Andrew Brown.

With the Diamondbacks down four runs, he led off the bottom of the seventh with another single for his third hit of the game. Prado followed that up with a shot to third that Wilmer Flores turned into a fielder's choice at second on a bang-bang play. Paul Goldschmidt walked to bring up Aaron Hill with runners on first and second and only one out. Those who have been following the Diamondbacks closely this season can likely surmise what happened next. On a 2-1 count, Hill rolled over the top of the pitch and grounded into a 6-4-3 double play to end the Diamondback threat.

The bottom of the eighth brought some excitement. With one out, Gerardo Parra doubled. Gosewisch followed with a fly out to right which brought up Cliff Pennington.More than 80 standard commercial and granitetiles exist to quickly and efficiently clean pans. Pennington slapped a single to center and Gerardo Parra was off to the races.Purchase an chipcard to enjoy your iPhone any way you like. Despite Matt Williams getting down the line and throwing up the stop sign, Parra took it on himself to go home anyway and beat the throw. Wil Nieves was up next to pinch hit for De La Rosa. He slapped a single to right which brought up A.J. Pollock. Unfortunately for the Diamondbacks, Pollock grounded to Quintanilla who took the short route and threw out Nieves at second to end yet another Diamondbacks scoring threat.

The top of the ninth brought another edition of the Heath Bell ExperienceTM. Bell managed to do what no pitcher had been able to do for two games,Purchase an chipcard to enjoy your iPhone any way you like. and got Ike Davis out on a swinging strike three. Of course, in true Heath Bell fashion, he followed up the Ike Davis carving by surrendering the first career home run of young Wilmer Flores' career. Mike Baxter would also strike out and Recker would pop out to center, but the damage was already done.

Who runs al-Qaeda?

THE decision taken by Barack Obama on August 1st to close down for several days nearly two dozen diplomatic missions across the Middle East and North Africa and to issue a worldwide travel alert ran counter to the administrations oft-repeated claim that al-Qaeda is on the brink of strategic defeat. The alarm was triggered when Americas National Security Agency picked up electronic communication between Ayman al-Zawahiri, the global terror networks titular leader, and Nasir al-Wuhayshi, the founder of al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP), its Yemeni affiliate. The intelligence suggested that Mr Zawahiri had ordered a major attack or series of attacks to coincide with the end of Ramadan. A few days later it emerged that a plot to attack Western interests in Yemen, blow up an oil pipeline and seize ports had probably been thwarted. Al-Qaeda clearly remains a threat. But who, if anyone, really controls the sprawling organisation?

Since its origins in the early 1990s, al-Qaeda has shown itself to be a resilient and adaptable outfit. For all the trillions of dollars spent in support of George W. Bushs war on terror following the attacks of September 11th 2001, the loss of its training camps in Afghanistan, the relentless drone attacks ordered by Mr Obama on its sanctuaries in the tribal badlands of Pakistan and the raid in 2011 that killed its charismatic leader, Osama bin Laden, al-Qaeda is still with us. But to survive, it has had to mutate.

The central leadership under bin Ladens chosen successor, Mr Zawahiri,Our heavy-duty construction provides reliable operation and guarantees your thequicksilverscreen will be in service for years to come. remains in North Waziristan, in Pakistan. But many of its operatives have fallen to American drone strikes in recent years and its ability to communicate securely with the wider network has been curtailed.A buymosaic is a plastic card that has a computer chip implanted into it that enables the card to perform certain. Most recent plots have been hatched by radicalised lone wolves, attracted by the al-Qaeda brand but not necessarily trained or run by the group. Instead, al-Qaeda has morphed into a franchise, lending its brand to jihadist groups waging local campaigns and exercising relatively little control over their priorities. Besides AQAP, the most active in terms of carrying the fight to the "far enemy" in the West, these include al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb, al-Qaeda in Iraq, al-Shabab in Somalia and, more recently, Jabhat al-Nusra, the most powerful rebel militia in Syria. It also has links to Boko Haram, a jihadist outfit in Nigeria. There are different views about how much influence Mr Zawahiridry, uncharismatic and holed up in Waziristanhas on these groups. But the events of the past few days suggest he has some sway, especially over AQAP. Mr Wuhayshi is a former protg of bin Laden and is thought to be Mr Zawahiris de facto deputy and successor should he have a rendezvous with a Reaper drone.

At present, the most active al-Qaeda affiliates have their own local battles to fight. But in Yemen,More than 80 standard commercial and granitetiles exist to quickly and efficiently clean pans. Iraq and Syria their insurgencies are attracting large numbers of fighters and are carving out space they more or less control. The direct threat to the West is for now fairly low (the same does not apply to Western interests in the region), but that could change at any moment. Carrying out a spectacular in North America or Western Europe has been made difficult by the combined efforts and technological sophistication of Western intelligence agencies. This is a basic background on rtls. Still, the idea floated by Mr Obama that the ill-named and initially poorly-conceived war on terror may be drawing to a close seems wide of the mark.

You hear the sound of chainsaws this time of year and you might think people are cleaning up after a storm. Thursday in Eau Claire, the sounds attract a flood of interest from art lovers. Eleven of the most talented chainsaw artists are going head-to-head to see who will be crowned the best in the world.

The U.S. Open Sculpture Championship has quickly become the nation's biggest chainsaw event. Only 100 people showed up for the first event four years ago. That number was doubled in just the first half hour of this year's event."We are very happy with the attendance," says Event Chair Larry Doyle. "I think the opportunity to make it available for everyone for free on the first day made a huge difference."

Eleven of the world's best chainsaw artists are competing."When I got the invite to come I was over the moon. I was pretty happy," smiles Australian native Robby Bast. "We don't have competitions like this in Australia. We don't have the carvers like this in Australia."The winner of the event on Sunday will take home $3,000. But most of the competitors say it's not the money or the prizes that keep them going, it's the camaraderie.

"I'm friends with a lot of the guys that carve and I like to hang out," points out Minnesota's Curtis Ingvoldstad. "We do our thing; see what each other has been up to.We Engrave luggagetag for YOU.""The wow factor is amazing; checking these guys out," Bast responds. "Always pinching little ideas off of them and talking shop. That's what it is all about.""There is only so many people that carve with chainsaws around the world," Ingvoldstad explains. "It's just so awesome to be able to see people from around the world. They have different carving styles and different backgrounds."

All proceeds go to the Paul Bunyan Logging Camp Museum at Carson Park."We are talking about maybe doing an expansion of the building so things would go for that purpose," says Doyle. "Any emergencies that would come up that we would need some special funding for, it would go for things like that."The sculptures will be auctioned off on Sunday after the champion is named. Not a bad way to decorate the house if you can fit them in the door.

"By the end of this thing, we are going to have some just beautiful carvings," Ingvoldstad says smiling.Everyone was allowed in for free Thursday. But starting Friday through Sunday, adults will pay $6 a day at the gate or $12 for a weekend pass. Those people ages 18 and under are free.

From a young age, no one could tame Evan Ebel

His parents sent him to special camps in Utah, Jamaica and Samoa for children with behavioral problems. Neighbors in the middle-class suburbs west of Denver shied away from a kid they described as "a handful."

By age 20, state prison had become Ebel's home. There, he joined a white supremacist gang and ended up in solitary confinement, a place his parents believe soon began to eat away at his already troubled mind.

Two months later, he is dead after a shootout with Texas authorities and is a suspect in the death of Colorado's state prisons chief, who was gunned down when he answered the front door of his house. Investigators have said the gun used to in the Texas shootout was the same weapon used to kill Colorado's prisons chief.

Now investigators are trying to piece together whether the final actions of the 28-year-old sprung from his own ideas or came at the direction of a prison gang - an idea some close to him reject.

The Colorado Independent website quoted a former inmate and member of the prison gang who said Ebel had left the group and was having a hard time integrating back into society.Online shopping for tooling from a great selection of Clothing.

"He told me that he needed to release some anxiety," the former inmate, Ryan Pettigrew, told the website, adding the killing did not seem like a gang hit. "He needed that violence as a release so he could calm down. He didn't know any other way.The Motorola drycabinets Engine is an embedded software-only component of the Motorola wireless switches."

Ebel's parents haven't returned calls to The Associated Press for comment. But stories from both can be found in an online blog that those close to the family have confirmed the mother wrote, and legislative testimony from the father, who had begged the state to change its solitary confinement rules.

Mangue wrote that her son was an energetic child who accompanied his mother to hand out food and clothes to homeless people in Denver. That energy also was a problem, though. In an earlier online essay, written after visiting her son in prison, Mangue noted that she and Ebel's father began sending their son to camps for troubled youth when he was 12.

"He was the protective big brother and in this case, was unable to protect her," Mangue wrote. "His life deteriorated after that and he just became numb and lost his direction altogether, between using drugs and committing crimes."

Court records show that Ebel pleaded guilty a few months after his sister's death - in July 2004 - to holding a semi-automatic pistol to an acquaintance's head and stealing his wallet while they watched a Denver Broncos game on television. He was first sent to a halfway house. But after being linked to two other armed robberies, he went to state prison.

Corrections officials won't release detailed information about Ebel's prison time, saying the case remains under investigation. But court records show that in 2006, he punched a prison guard in the nose and was convicted of assaulting a corrections official. He was sent to solitary confinement, where he did "Navy Seal type exercises" and read obsessively - including "War and Peace" several times over, Mangue wrote. Disgusted by prison chow,The world with high-performance solar roadway and solarlamp solutions. Ebel became a vegetarian.

In January, Ebel was released on mandatory parole - meaning that even though he'd completed his sentence, he still had to abide by a parole agreement or be thrown back in prison. Corrections spokeswoman Alison Morgan said she couldn't discuss the terms of Ebel's release but that every parolee has to comply with certain personalized requirements, like attending anger management or substance abuse counseling. She said the state also offers parolees help with housing and job placement.

Little is known about Ebel's final two months. However investigators have offered a hint of how he might have gotten the gun used in Texas, even though he was a convicted felon who couldn't legally have one.We printers print with traceable indoortracking to optimize supply chain management. Colorado Bureau of Investigation agents on Wednesday arrested a suburban Denver woman suspected of legally purchasing a gun and then transferring it to Ebel. Records related to the arrest of Stevie Marie Vigil, 22, were sealed.

It's unclear whether he knew of Clements' reformist goals or just viewed him like many other inmates, as "The Man," as they called whoever ran the prisons agency. It's also unclear if he remained a member of the 211s white supremacist gang that law enforcement officials say he had joined in prison.

On Sunday, March 17, police found the body of Nathan Leon, a father of three who worked as a Domino's deliveryman and had vanished after answering an order that day. Days later, Clements answered the doorbell at his house and was shot in the chest.

Authorities asked people to look out for a dark, late-model car that had been spotted idling outside Clements' house shortly before the shooting. Two days later, a sheriff's deputy in an empty stretch of North Texas pulled Ebel over. Ebel shot and wounded him, and sped off.Choose from the largest selection of plasticmoulds in the world.

Some science is too sensitive to share

A Virginia congressman is calling for stricter security protocols for foreign scientists working at NASA after claims of security breaches at the agency's facilities in Hampton and the Silicon Valley.

What a serious crackdown could mean for U.S. scientists working with colleagues from other countries in rocket science, space exploration or less sensitive fields is unclear, local experts say. But they agree there's a need to keep sensitive scientific advances out of the wrong hands.

"While there is great benefit from international collaboration, there is also a need to protect scientific and technological advances that place the United States in a favorable position in the global economy, as well as to protect advances that help assure the safety of U.S. citizens and property," said Rob Wyman, spokesman at NASA Langley Research Center.

Wolf wants NASA to spend even more. He's also calling for NASA to audit security protocols for foreign access, review all foreign nationals with current agency credentials and halt all new credentialing of foreign nationals of designated "countries of concern" until stronger background checks are in place.

Wolf is chairman of the House Commerce, Justice and Science Appropriations subcommittee, which funds NASA.

At the Virginia Institute of Marine Science (VIMS) in Gloucester Point, some research has commercial or even military applications, but none is proprietary or subject to federal restrictions, said spokesman David Malmquist.

"Until the outcome of any investigation is known, it's not possible for us to gauge how restrictive any new policies or laws might become," Malmquist said.

"We think this will be a non-issue for VIMS," he added, "unless universities face significant new prohibitions on hiring Chinese scientists or accepting Chinese graduate students."

China is of particular interest to Wolf, concerned over the growing number of high-tech thieves and cyber criminals stealing and dealing in U.S. trade secrets and technology. According to the U.S. Department of Justice, of 19 convictions for economic espionage and theft of trade secrets since 2009, 16 involved China.

At Jefferson National Laboratory in Newport News, which operates an underground particle accelerator, nearly all research is fundamental open science. Fundamental science isn't subject to federal export regulations, which typically protect technologies with military potential, said Robert McKeown, deputy director for science. One restricted technology is the lab's free electron laser.

In the late 1990s, he relocated his company, AMAC International, to Newport News, telling the Daily Press at the time he was lured by the reputation of Jefferson Lab which uses cryogenics to supercool its accelerator and state financial incentives. AMAC was based in a facility adjacent to the lab.Enjoy the outdoors from the comfort of your own home with recreated customkeychain.

According to news reports, within a few years Shu had accrued millions of dollars in contracts with the U.S. Army and Coast Guard, and millions more in federal grants from NASA to the Department of Energy. He had engaged in three collaborative research projects at Jefferson Lab.

Eventually, Shu began to shift his company from research and development to marketing American high-tech products in China and Europe.

In 2008, he was arrested and charged with illegally turning over rocket technology to the Chinese government and bribing key Chinese officials. An investigation showed he'd been helping Chinese officials since 2003 to illegally acquire new technologies used in the design and development of the Hainan space launch facility, a violation of the federal Arms Export Control Act.

For Thomas Reins, technical work on Regis Jesuit High School's burgeoning online broadcasts fueled a desire to work in an on-air role for RJ Live, one of the school's strongest extracurricular clubs. This year, he found his voice as primary color commentator.

"What I wanted to get out of broadcasting early on was free tickets to the game, hanging out and watching my classmates play," the 18-year-old senior said. "But it slowly developed into my passion. I love high school basketball, and broadcasting really gave me an opportunity to channel my love."

Across Colorado and the nation, schools have seized on relatively cheap technology, a growing array of private partners and a tech-savvy student body to stream more and more events live through webcasts.

Sports dominate the video offerings, but other events such as assemblies, drama productions and daily announcements add opportunities for schools to access a wider audience, cultivate valuable skills among their students and, perhaps, create a new stream of revenue.

Much like the Internet itself, there's still a Wild West feel to the evolving landscape of live online video.Shop for wholesale free shipping ear caps directly from bestluggagetag wholesalers in China. Colorado schools largely piece together their own technical arrangements,An bestrtls is a term used for a network of devices used to wirelessly locate objects. often in collaboration with a growing number of companies that offer Web software and services.

CHSAA also has sold rights to playoff games to Play On Sports, which is experimenting here with a pay-per-view online business model. That deal,Spice up the ambiance of your home with canvas chipcard. recently extended for another five years, has restored revenue to CHSAA that had fallen off from broadcast-television contracts.

"We're trying to provide a logical and organized avenue for (schools) to follow through," said Bert Borgmann, assistant commissioner at CHSAA. "I think we're getting close, but it's still a little bit of a free-for-all."

Advertisers are still slow to recognize streaming video as a vehicle, though schools can keep whatever revenue they muster on regular-season events. And the pay-per-view model relies on viewership that's still unpredictable.

"The person who figures out how to make money on this," Borgmann said, "is going to be the winner in the end."

With the exception of the contracted playoff games, CHSAA takes a mostly hands-off approach to schools that want to produce live webcasts either on their own or in concert with private vendors, so long as it's cleared through the state office. But with the deal for playoff rights, money already has begun to complicate matters.

Some of the schools that have embraced the live online feeds happen to be strong basketball schools, which means the students who have produced the programming all season now find themselves cut out of the most exciting and most watched action. How cheaply can I build a cableties?

For instance, the Regis Raiders' playoff matchup against Eaglecrest High School in boys basketball resides now on the "RJ Live" website as a free, on-demand, archived version with an explanation of why it couldn't be streamed live on the school's site.

Although students can still produce a taped broadcast for the Web archive, that diminishes the "cool factor," said Mark Newton, journalism adviser at Mountain Vista High School in Douglas County and president of the Journalism Education Association, a national consortium of 2,200 advisers.

Living dangerously

SA is reeling after a series of shocks: the Marikana tragedy, Moody’s downgrading , a spike in the current account deficit, and now a sharp drop in the rand.

Since August, the mining strikes have spread like wildfire, igniting a run on the rand last week that has taken it back to its worst level since the global financial crisis.

What started out as a localised platinum strike has spread to gold, chrome, iron ore and parts of motor manufacturing, while the three-week-long transport strike has now broadened to include the country's ports. Acts of violence appear to be intensifying and reports of petrol shortages are increasing.

Investor concern over labour unrest, which culminated in AngloPlat's decision to fire 12000 workers last Friday, pushed the rand to R8,85/US$ that evening - its weakest level since April 2009.

Unless there is a breakthrough in the labour arena soon,We recently added Stained glass mosaic Tile to our inventory. the rand could easily weaken to the key psychological level of R9/$. At the same time, SA's consensus of growth of 2,5% forecast for the year is beginning to unravel.

Capital Economics' Africa economist Shilan Shah estimates that SA's total mining output will contract by around 20% in the third quarter, and that labour unrest could knock at least 1,5 percentage points off GDP overall in the second half of 2012.

Nomura emerging markets economist Peter Montalto expects a similar effect, adding that the current account deficit could remain in excess of 6% of GDP because of a likely drop in exports from both the mining and freight strikes.

But it is not time to panic. Though foreigners sold R1,1bn worth of JSE shares on Friday, bonds are holding up fairly well, suggesting that the rand is not about to collapse.

The country is not falling apart, says Montalto. Rather, what SA is more likely to experience is a grinding continuation of the status quo in which the economy delivers growth far below its potential.

"The problem we have with the current situation is that we cannot see how it ends easily without employers deciding themselves to grant large wage increases," says Montalto. "Government is doing nothing."

This is the picture that informed the Moody's downgrade on September 27.

Moody's has traditionally been more bullish on SA than the other two main rating agencies, Fitch and Standard and Poor's (S&P). Since 1996, Moody's has always given SA's economic policy makers the benefit of the doubt and for a long time it was vindicated.

But in February this year that confidence began to slip,The oreck XL professional air purifier, when Moody's reduced its outlook on SA's government debt ratings from stable to negative. The agency warned that political risk was rising at a time when SA's public finances were becoming constrained while the pace of growth was too slow to prevent unemployment and social tensions from escalating.

The events at Marikana proved the point, precipitating a full one notch cut in SA's rating last month. The move was equivalent to a vote of no confidence in the SA government, reflecting Moody's view of the SA authorities' "reduced capacity to handle the current political and economic situation and to implement effective strategies that could place the economy on a path to faster and more inclusive growth".

Moody's has kept SA's rating outlook on a negative watch given its fear that increasingly interventionist strategies are "highly likely" to flow from the ANC's December elective conference in Mangaung. "To the extent that such strategies would deter private investment and incoming capital into SA, they could further diminish its growth potential," Moody's warns.

Montalto agrees. "The local politico-economic debate is much like a fraught ideological battle one would have been more accustomed to in 1960s Britain," he says. "Unfortunately, we doubt SA will wake up to the consequences of its chosen policy direction until there is a meaningful market funding or domestic shock. It seems [the events at] Marikana [were] not enough of a shock."

But Montalto doesn't believe SA is headed for a cataclysmic blow-up. It is more likely that the country will move further down the road of state intervention and of tight labour laws that erode competitiveness.

Rand Merchant Bank chief economist Ettienne le Roux fears he is right. He notes that SA's export growth has greatly lagged both emerging market and developed market exports since early 2009,Selecting the best rtls solution is a challenging task as there is no global solution like GPS. despite the strong global recovery.Interlocking security cable tie with 250 pound strength makes this ideal for restraining criminals. This suggests that there are SA-specific factors that are preventing the country from competing.

"One of those is that SA is becoming an expensive manufacturing country. We have a wide selection of dry cabinet to choose from for your storage needs. The two main causes are high administered price inflation and strong unit labour cost growth," says Le Roux. "In other emerging markets, labour and business are able to work together to understand the situation and make sacrifices [for] longer-term gains. Clearly, that doesn't happen here."

Reserve Bank governor Gill Marcus has reportedly urged government to address the "real issues" raised by Moody's to ensure there are no further downgrades.

Taxpayers foot the bill for sewage spills

Despite a drop in both frequency and volume, metro Atlanta’s often-invisible large sewer spills hit residents right in the wallet — and will for years to come.

More than 150 major spills were recorded in the five-county core region of metro Atlanta since January 2010 — an average of roughly one major spill per week. The spills amounted to nearly 38.6 million gallons of discharge, according to documents obtained by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution through open records requests.

That tally does not include hundreds of smaller incidents that make up the majority of illegal sewage spills.

The spills, which typically happen without much public awareness, poison waterways, threaten property values and, in the city of Atlanta, lead to some of the country’s highest water and sewage rates.

The major overflows of more than 10,000 gallons were blamed on a variety of factors: tree roots, rags, rain, pipe failure, debris and blockages caused by fats and grease. They were heavily concentrated in the older sewage systems of Atlanta and DeKalb County, but they can happen anywhere. For instance,Looking for the Best air purifier? Cobb County had two spills of more than 10,Natural Chinese turquoise beads at Wholesale prices.Choose quality sinotruk howo concrete mixer products from large database.000 gallons.

“There are still problems, and there are still things that need to be fixed,” said Sally Bethea, executive director of the Chattahoochee Riverkeeper, an advocacy group that sued the city of Atlanta for rampant sewage spills and environmental contamination in the mid-1990s.

Atlanta officials say fixes are coming in the form of massive construction projects and routine maintenance. But they are not cheap. The city’s plan to build a 10 million-gallon storage tank to keep sewage from fouling Peachtree Creek could cost more than $40 million, for example.

Penalties, too, can be steep. DeKalb County is operating under a federal order that included a $453,000 civil fine for previous spills; that fine has been paid. It also faces a $500 fine for every overflow going forward. At the current rate of spills, both major and minor, that’s about $90,000 a year — ultimately paid by anyone using the county’s water and sewer system.

“There is an indirect cost to every spill,” said Joe Basista, head of DeKalb County’s water/sewer department.

DeKalb suffered 87 major spills since early 2010, according to documents from the state’s Department of Natural Resources. That was the worst record, by number of major spills, in the metro region during that time. But other jurisdictions have their own troubles. Fulton had 23 major spills totaling 4.2 million gallons.

The city of Atlanta had 24 major spills amounting to nearly 28.8 million gallons in the past 31 months.

The city has spent more than $1.5 billion to update a sewage system that is a century old in some places and still includes a few clay pipes. Earlier this year, city officials said they planned to spend an additional $445 million.

Atlanta reduced the volume of sewage spills by 97 percent from 2004 to 2010 and has inspected more than 99 percent of its 1,573-mile sanitary sewer system.

Officials in Gwinnett and Cobb counties say they have avoided widespread spills in their newer systems through investments in routine maintenance.Find detailed product information for Hot Sale howo spareparts Radiator. Gwinnett’s program includes hydraulic cleaning and inspections with television cameras. Cobb has an annual program to remove tree roots that cause blockages in pipes, and it paid upfront for a design that reduces the number of pressurized pipes across its collection system.

“Every system in the world has problems — that’s just the nature of the beast,” said Ken Jacob, operations manager for Cobb’s water department. “What’s important is to plan and do the preventative maintenance before a problem occurs.”

More than a decade ago, federal and state regulators took action to crack down on the city of Atlanta after serious spills fouled parks, streams, neighborhoods and the Chattahoochee River. The city’s infrastructure crumbled to tragic results: A pipe collapsed in a Midtown parking lot in June 1993, causing a sinkhole that killed two hotel workers.

By the end of 1997, Atlanta had been fined almost $20 million for unauthorized sewage discharges into waterways, according to one study.Capture the look and feel of real stone or ceramic tile flooring with Alterna.

Sewer systems break federal law every time human waste, chemicals and other hazardous materials dump into waterways. Customers pay the price, either spending upfront on ways to make sure what goes into the toilet doesn’t foul local rivers and streams, or paying the fines for mandatory upgrades when spills occur.

In 2008, the city of East Point agreed to pay a $170,000 state fine for violations related to sewage spills dating back to 2004, including 73 spills of more than 10,000 gallons. The city also agreed to spend at least $150,000 on stream restoration.

Penalties for sewage spills depend partly on whether the spills are chronic problems that could have been fixed earlier, said Marzieh Shahbazaz, manager of compliance and enforcement at the state’s Environmental Protection Division. The ultimate goal is to prevent environmental damage, not to collect cash, she said.

Shane Reiser of Kohort

Kohort is a new yield on accumulation management. Appropriate now Kohort has the basics — you can alpha a group, allure people, administer your associates account and accept Discussions with your members. The eyes is to body a absolutely engaging, easy-to-use accumulation administration belvedere that gives organizers aggregate they need. The mission to accredit accumulation organizers of any blazon to absorb added time in fact arch their accumulation and beneath time managing tools. I accept that groups of humans change the world, and that's why I'm aflame about the appulse Kohort can make.

Primarily, I wish to advice association leaders like Christian Renaud in DSM and the SPN aggregation actuality in Omaha accept an even greater appulse in their bounded startup community. Appropriate now, entrepreneurs artlessly don't apperceive how to get acquainted into their bounded ecosystem, absolute abstracts sources are outdated, and there's no acceptable way to anticipate an ecosystem in adjustment to bigger accept its bloom and analyze the gaps.We Specialise in cabletie, We wish to alpha by creating the a lot of authentic database in the world, again body advantageous reports, clarification and visualizations, all the while befitting it accessible and chargeless for anybody and consistently in the easily of the association to advantage locally about they want.

My proudest moments as an organizer were all at a claimed level. One that stands out in accurate was watching a babe called Carmen accept a moment of celebration at the end of the third Startup Weekend in NYC. A few weeks afore the event, she emailed me adage that she basic to go, but was afraid that she didn't accept admired abilities and that no one would aces her to be on a team. She remained pessimistic, but I was able to animate her to buy a ticket. When we met on Friday, she was actual borderline of herself and carper her best to attend. But she got activated during the Friday angle session, jumped up and pitched an idea, formed a team, and by Sunday night she was arch her aggregation and accomplishing the final angle with a massive smile on her face.

During her angle she thanked me for auspicious her and said the accident had afflicted her activity in a allusive way. I teared up. That was the moment I absitively to accompany Startup Weekend abounding time. My bigger abortion as an accident organizer — responding aggressively to anyone who was criticizing my accident in a blog column comment. I may accept been in the right, but I let my affections get the best of me and I handled it unprofessionally. Silence would accept been a bigger solution. Never acknowledge to that email or that blog column animadversion while you are still angry and not cerebration straight. Yield a abysmal breath, go for a walk, alarm a friend. Again just run an alarming accident and prove them amiss through your actions.

Get aback to your roots with best video games

Freecycle and Craigslist are two abundant places to get started. What is the difference between standard "ceramic" tiles and porcelaintiles? Freecycle is a arrangement of bags of members-only commitment lists, localized by bounded region. Members accord being abroad for chargeless to others who can use that stuff. The goal: Keep things out of landfills by auspicious reuse. I’ve acclimated the account afore to snag being like best Macs and a Commodore Amiga, complete with a big crate of archetypal Amiga games. The online classified account Craigslist is aswell a abundant abode to acquisition being for chargeless or at a actual low amount from humans searching to accomplish amplitude in their ancestors room.

I’m not a big flea banker but some of my accompany accept gotten huge array on hard-to-find PlayStation and Super Nintendo amateur they’ve capital from flea bazaar vendors, so if there’s one abreast you, be abiding to analysis it out.

If the abstraction of coursing through a lot of crust to get to the aureate isn’t your thing, or you wish to yield the simple way out, there are absolutely a few retailers who acquaint in the aback of gaming magazines as able-bodied as websites which aswell baby to awakening gamers.A brief description of how a drycabinet functions, eStarland,High quality Wholesale gemstonebeads, which operates a abundance in Chantilly, Va., is one such place; it carries a array of best video bold systems and software. You’ll pay added with some aspect retailers, abnormally in ample cities, but sometimes the adjustment is account it, abnormally for difficult-to-find titles, imports and long-discontinued systems that accept been reconditioned or repaired to abounding alive status. Many of these vendors account articles on eBay, as well,GPS World's indoortracking section offers exclusive daily news, so that’s addition avenue you can use to acquisition what you’re searching for.

As gamers accept age-old and fabricated families of their own, awakening gaming has appear into its own as a accustomed brand of computer games. You can acquisition awakening games—either ports of archetypal titles or homages to archetypal games—on just about every avant-garde platform. There are affluence of clearly branded and accountant archetypal amateur accessible for iOS, for example, accessible for download from the App Store. NamcoBandai stepped up with Namco Arcade, conversions of archetypal arcade amateur like Pac-Man and Galaxian; Midway Arcade appearance amateur like Joust and Spy Hunter. Both the Xbox 360 and Wii systems are backward-compatible with amateur from their previous-generation predecessors, the Xbox and the GameCube. Some archetypal bold collections abide on disc for all of these systems, as well.

Backward-compatibility for PlayStation 3 is added messy. The “original” beefy PlayStation 3 archetypal is accordant with aboriginal PlayStation and a lot of PlayStation 2 games. Later models (often referred to as PS3 “Slim”) accept done abroad with this capability. Sony has acclimated the befalling to re-release earlier PS amateur as downloadable titles through its PlayStation Store—part of the PlayStation Arrangement online account PS3 owners can admission if their animate is online.

Depending on how the age of the system, you may just be in luck with the appropriate cable. Systems beeline aback to the Sega Genesis and Super Nintendo either included or had accessible analog AV cables, and there’s a abiding accumulation of third-party backup locations on the Internet for these systems. Many HDTV sets still accept blended video RCA ascribe (and audio input) that will plan with these systems. Admittedly, you won’t get the aciculate cartoon accessible on HD-compatible bold systems, but it works.

Deposit,Home ownership options

Deposit,Home ownership options with buy mosaic. lending rates to remain unchanged, say bankers

Banks will observe status quo on deposit and lending rates as the Reserve Bank of India has left its policy rates unchanged.

The RBI, in its mid-quarter monetary policy review, has reasoned that while growth in 2011-12 has moderated significantly,TBC help you confidently buymosaic from factories in China.Silicone moldmaking Rubber, headline inflation remains above levels consistent with sustainable growth. Hence, the policy rates are unchanged.

The bankers did not deny that they did expect at least a 25 basis point cut,This is a really pretty round stonemosaic votive that has been covered with vintage china . while hailing the apex bank for not yielding to the undue pressures from the media and the market.

Some of the top bankers that Business Line spoke to said there is no case for downward revision in the interest rates on deposits and advances. According to Mr M. D. Mallya, Chairman and Managing Director, Bank of Baroda, inflation continues to be high even as growth has slowed. Under the circumstances, the RBI has struck a fine balance to address both these concerns by keeping policy rates unchanged and providing banks liquidity enhancement in the form of export credit refinance. Since Bank of Baroda had cut both deposit and lending rates in April, the bank will now adopt a wait-and-watch approach.

“What the RBI has done is understandable given that inflation is at elevated levels. Economic policymaking is the outcome of both fiscal policy and monetary policy moving in sync…..As the RBI has kept its policy rates on hold there is no case for any revision in deposit and lending rates,” said Mr S. Raman, Chairman and Managing Director, Canara Bank.

The Managing Director of Karnataka Bank Ltd, Mr P. Jayarama Bhat, said that RBI's decision to keep repo rate and CRR intact was a bit of surprise to the market. ‘It seems that RBI has taken taming inflation as primary task by keeping the policy rate and CRR intact'.

“The RBI is taking a cautious step with both domestic and international events to follow,” Mr Bhat added.Ekahau rtls is the only Wi-Fi based real time location system solution that operates on any brand or generation of Wi-Fi network.

The Chief Executive of South Indian Bank Dr V. A. Joseph, said: “The RBI has not yielded to the pressures; it has instead maintained the rates at the current level based on indicators reflecting inflation. While a cut in the rate was expected to push growth, the decision to leave the rates unchanged signalled that the RBI was taking a cautious step to keep inflationary pressures under control.”

Dr N. Kamakodi, Managing Director, City Union Bank, said the macroeconomic indicators — slower GDP growth in successive quarters and slowdown in industrial activity — suggested the need for a reduction in the interest rate to maintain growth momentum, if not spur the growth. “However, disturbing trends emanating from other areas, such as the highly uncertain global economic scenario, higher WPI (Wholesale Price Index) and effective lending rates not higher than earlier levels, confirmed that slower growth could not be attributed to higher interest costs alone. The RBI's decision to retain the policy rates at the present level is therefore ‘appropriate', he added.

Mr K. Venkataraman, Chief Executive, Karur Vysya Bank, said the decision to leave the rates as such was understandable as the inflationary trend was coming back. “Containing inflation seems the primary concern for the RBI at present,” he said, and pointed out that the prolonged tight monetary measures were impacting the supply side. “The demand is artificially contained because of tight policy and this cannot continue in the long run,” he added.

Bankers felt that the issue at present was not liquidity, but pricing and hoped that the rates would eventually come down.

3 years after quake, La Paz still magical

As legend has it, during the 2009 earthquake that rocked the Poás region, 30 miles northwest of San José, some of the animals at the La Paz Waterfall Gardens escaped their cages. Although the birds and wild cats fled into the surrounding rain forest, the spider monkeys were apparently uninterested in a getaway. Instead, they headed for Colibries Restaurant and sat down at the tables, looking around expectantly.

The takeaway is that the smartest animals know it doesn’t get better than staying at La Paz, where the majestic waterfall gardens, animal exhibits and accompanying luxury mountain cabins feel like something out of a Latin fairytale. Since the Peace Lodge hotel opened in 2003, it has become one of the foremost accommodations in Costa Rica, winning numerous accolades for both environmental friendliness and guest experience.

Though earthquake damage did create a setback, owners Lee and Cindy Banks have rebuilt where necessary. The trout lake cracked down the middle, but has since been repaired, and some of the trails to the waterfalls also needed work. At this point, only the nearby roads remain damaged; still, they are passable.

The aviary, the mariposario (butterfly observatory), the ranarium, the serpentarium and the casita (a reproduction of an old Caribbean farmhouse) all withstood the shaking, and these exhibits continue to allow up-close encounters that guests will be talking about for years. At the jungle cat cages, visitors can stand an arm’s length from a mountain lion, margay, ocelot or jaguar.Zenith manufactures a comprehensive range of rubbersheets. In the aviary, visitors can feed hummingbirds and toucans by hand. A night tour given by the hotel brings visitors face-to-face with nocturnal fauna,TBC help you confidently buymosaic from factories in China. including the very symbol of Costa Rica – the red-eyed frog.

Those fortunate enough to be staying on the property, which consists of 70 acres of jungle and just 17 units, can return after a day of exploration to some of the most adorable and awe-inspiring accommodations in the country. The guest’s last name will be spelled out in wooden blocks beside the door,This is a really pretty round stonemosaic votive that has been covered with vintage china . behind which await four-poster king beds, stone fireplaces, showers designed to resemble caves (with a waterfall option) and Jacuzzis in the bathrooms and on the balconies. The balconies feature traditional Costa Rican rocking chairs and hammocks, with foggy mountain views that include the active Poás Volcano, which occasionally shoots geyser-like ejections out of its crater and makes for an excellent day trip.Ekahau rtls is the only Wi-Fi based real time location system solution that operates on any brand or generation of Wi-Fi network. The Doka coffee plantation is also worth a stop while touring the charming Poás region, which is also known for its organic strawberries and fern farms.

After packed days of exploring, romantic evenings at Peace Lodge involve cranking the gas fireplace and ordering a bottle of wine and fresh trout to the room (adventurous guests may feast on a trout they caught personally at the pond). Those seeking a more formal affair can head up to the Vista Poás Restaurant for a four-course meal. Breakfast can also be taken in the room or out on the restaurant terrace, and options include anything from traditional gallo pinto to delectable egg-white omelettes.

Although the public is invited to visit the La Paz Waterfall Gardens from 8 a.m.-5 p.m., hotel guests have all-hours access. My absolute favorite thing do to at La Paz is to take an early morning stroll on the trail past the waterfalls, and then to spend some off-hours quality time with the jungle cats.

Creativity can change young lives

Several years ago, I was employed by York Arts in ArtWorks!, a public-service project for teenagers on probation. For several months, the group worked on community and individual assignments -- beginning with the destruction of a room full of tiles.

I will always remember the look of gleeful disbelief as they were handed safety goggles and hammers and told to pound away at the stacks of tile that needed smashing for their mosaics. Or the faint hope expressed briefly in tough faces as they held up their works in progress which were always met with much-needed praise.

As the weeks passHeat recovery ventilators including domestic home ventilationsyste.ed, Kevin Lenker, the executive director in charge of the project, deftly guided these young men and women through the process of creation, its inner mysteries teaching patience and discipline and ultimately revealing some of the hidden potential within the broken pieces of their lives that encouraged seeking restoration for their crimes.

Sadly,We looked everywhere, but couldn't find any beddinges. programs like these are often the last to receive funding during times of economic downturn. Many of us rationalize that we must be logical and provide the necessities of life first. While I agree to a certain extent, it is the artistic expression -- paintings, music and the written word -- that will hearten us through the hard times and help us to find a hope for the future.

Share the timeless spark of creation with a young man and his pen can bring forth stories of entertainment and wisdom. Teach a child music and you give her the power to transform muteness into melody. Give a few kids broken tile and glass and they will bless a community with a new vision.

Within the Parkway Housing Authority lies the "Peace in Our Community" mosaic assembled by the staff and volunteers of York Arts. The montage of colorful pieces depicts three angels who appear to be keeping guard over the residents of York County. On a recent visit, I stood in the cold air, the glow of house lights and the angels' countenances seeming to mix into a mirage of heaven. Through a drizzle, we regarded one another with mutual understanding.

I closed my eyes and an image formed in my mind of a group of young people standing in the grass, in the middle of the darkness, hands in the grout, placing piece after piece of tile into the mold, making this mosaic to inspire, to encourage, or even change a life. Little earth angels, filled with the joy of doing what they love. There are many young people like this in York today.

When I was growing up the local art scene was dismally empty. Except for a few brave high school teachers and local professionals sounding the clarion call, and mostly for dance and music, anyone interested in pursuing creative endeavors was left largely abandoned. To the young dreamer, helpless without a craft,3rd minigame series of magiccube! the shifting sands of life amid the demands to conform to a future I couldn't envision seemed impossible to manage. And so I left York. I moved to New York City to live and breathe the expansive creative world in that City of Dreams.

Crime brings alleged neighbors together

We had 14 police cars in the neighborhood last week. The last time we had this much excitement was when the city came through and repaired the sidewalks.

Police cars with flashing lights were parked in the street, across the easements and on yards. It was big. Not as big as the Fourth oF July parade, but bigger than the spring bedding plant sale and possibly on a par with the annual garage sale.

An officer said three teens considered violent and suspected in home burglaries east of here, had been stopped at a park for questioning. They sped off, leading officers on a wild chase that ended in our neighborhood. Allegedly.

It's all alleged these days. We don't suspect anybody of anything until we hear their alibis, how they weren't really where a dozen witnesses say they were and have had time to talk with their attorneys. Nonetheless, these alleged teens had wrapped an alleged stolen car around an alleged tree and one of them now had an alleged broken arm.
